my comp is custom bulit but wasnt made for recording. my questions are i have 512 ram should i get more? how do i put two moniters running off of one comp and how do i install a second hard drive to be the slave drive, the primary drive is 40 gb and the one i want to install is 200gb

512ram will do fine, the average amount of ram people use here is about 1gig

To run dual monitors, you'll need a PCI dual monitor card e.g:
Quadro4 400 NVS Video Card, PCI, 64MB DDR - supports 4
Matrox Millennium series

or you could get something like the Systemax DS1500BSY / Dual 15-Inch w/
a PNY Verto GeForce FX /128MB DDR / PCI card.

512 is the bare minimum for squeaking by these days. I'd say bump it up to a gig.

Yeah, as far as RAM goes.
512MB is my recommended bare minimum for just the average home user running a version of Windows XP.

For anyone doing anything more than average- some graphics stuff or some audio. 768 as the bare minimum.

RAM is just so cheap these days with Value Select and whatnot from Corsair and Muskin that you should just go to 1GB. It'll keep you solid for awhile.

yep, I agree with the value select corsair stuff. I have 4 gigs of it, it just flies and is very reasonably prices(1 gig module for a little over a 100 bucks(from new egg)

If you're running windows xp, you should be able to put in a second pci video card then go to control panel -> display -> settings and get yourself set up.

Hard drives, depending on what you're running (SATA, EIDE, etc) generally have a switch or jumper for setting one up as Master or Slave. Just follow the directions from the manufacturer. They're easy to install.
