rap no instruments, i thought m-audio was decent , i read alot more and im looking for a interface and pre amp or a combo, people said dmp3 and m-audio, and im going to get a new souncard eventualy, (audiophile) i still dont think i need a mixer, but i can get that down the road and if i spend on the mixer wont that help the cheasy pre amp?

um...mabie if you get a mackie it will help the cheesy preamp. A preamp is desighned to be used as a preamp a mixer is desighned for other things as well (I just can't be fucked looking for the deffinitions)

If you aren't recording any instruments you don't really need a mixer.

have you thought about the multitrack road?

OK last time I'm going to reply if they dont listen.

dirtyp, read back cafefully and save........ your........... money............

The fast track usb thing is worthless, you can get the Mobile Pre USB for $150(its an audio inteface thats WAAAAAYYYY better than you built in sound card).
The M-Audio Nova is $100.00. Plus cable cost($10-15)
and a good set of Headphone will cost you $100.00.
It comes with software etc etc.

Total for a good sounding settup..... $365.oo plus tax.

Use your good sense and save up to buy a good basic setup, that will alow two ins at a time and has pre amps built in(with phantom power for a condesor mic like the Nova).....

Small cost for good sound, I would say.

DOnt settle for less.

Immediately get a good beginner recording book (spend $20 before spending hundred$/thousand$) that shows you what you need to get started and how to hook everything up in your studio:
Home Recording for Musicians by Jeff Strong - $15
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/07...ce&n=283155&n=507846&s=books&v=glance
(Wish I'd had that when I started; would have saved me lots of money and time and grief)

Good Newbie guide that also explains all the basics:

Plenty of software around to record for free to start out on:

if you order the m-audio mobile pre from musiciansfriend you get a free mxl 990 condenser microphone. if you order from zzounds you get a free aries condenser. 150 bucks for a soundcard/preamp/mic.

DUDE JUMP ON THAT OFFER NOW!

THAT'S A GOOD DEAL BORROW MONEY IF YOU HAVE TO!

with the dmp3 i still will need a interface, i found griffin mic2, and imic usb audio interface for under 35, will that work right? for at least a lil while and then i can get a better interface down the road when i have sumthing to spend, perhaps a emu-404 pci or a m-audiophile i can only afford to spend around 100 now,so what your sayin is the audiobuddy and fast track are a waist of money, because i cant uprgrade them, ill have to get a pre amp and a interface all over again?, but they offer me a preamp and interface for a decent price, one last ?, will a rolls gci404 do the trick?

*warning prices in pound sterling* i would reccomend an M-Audio Audiobuddy £60 and the M-audio 2496 £55. That way you would have two inputs through a proper soundcard, the ability to use a condenser in the future (phantom power) and with good mic technique you can get a clear reasonable sound :)

i didnt read that b4 i replied thats exactly what i need now i have to choose wich one, i can still return my mic for a extra 45 wich brings my budget up to 145, good shit i dont know much about those mics, wich is better for recording rap, and its only 16 bit 48 khz 40 db gain, will that be loud enuff, respond quick i want to get this, and thankx for the paitience and help, i know us newbies get on your nerves with our simple ?s

Dude Return The Microphone Now!

Go Down The Street And Busk For The Extra $5 The Mxl 990 May Not Be The Best But It Will Do. Atleast You Will Have A Good Audio Interface. This Is Only My Opinion But If I Were You I Would Return That Mic Now And Get The Package.

Ps. Caps = Urgancey And Yelling :d

already return the mic, im just waiting for more feedback, i plan on ordering one of them b4 the days up, icant find anything about that aries mic, i found somme descent reviews for the mxl mic, is the 16 bit 48 khz going to hurt me, the fast track has 24 and its 50 cheaper, and there is alot of 24 bit 96 khz pre amps for that price, but it fits in my budget now that i brough that mic back.

I said I wasnt going to reply again but.........

dirtyp the fast track is a joke, buy the mobile pre pack.
At least if you want to record a stereo instrument in the future you can do that. Think ahead rather than think cheap.
Plus You wont get a Mic if you buy the fast track.
ANd if you want to use a good mic like a condensor(the mxl is a condenso) you will need Phantom power which the fast track does not have.
The mobile pre does have phantom, it just a better interface than the fast track.
16bit 48khz isnt going to hurt you. I still record at 16bit 44.1khz.
The quality is just fine.

Just for clarity the Mobile pre usb is not the DMP3, wasnt sure if thats what you were think or not.
And stay way away from those cheap'o griffen or generic usb intefaces.

Wait so you get the Mobile pre usb and a MXL mic for that price?
DO IT! that Mobile pre is a great little interface with nice pre's bulit in and has all the conection you need now and later.
Did I mention DO IT!
:D

if i get MAudio Fast Track USB Audio Interface, do i still need a mixer? i dont understand the deiiference between pre amp, and mixers , dont they both do the same thing, i found a TAPCO Mix.60 is this a decent mixer, also if i combine them wont i have more then the single channel the m audio has?

Jesus God almighty. get a MR. Microphone. http://www.askmen.com/video/2006_mar/mar02_mr_microphone.html

I mean...buy a book on home recording, save your money for something that isnt crap, and then after you have studied some youll realize that under a certain price point(at least 100 bucks!) youd be as good singing into your farkin headphones. and type the whole word out instead of going B4 or 2cool or ICU!
