What would be a good mic for the above amp, (An all tube 25-50-100 watt model)

as far as the rest of the signal chain goes, it's a mackie mixer and into the Digi001 on my PC.

The guitar player likes the Tube sound, so we don't need a mic that will add too much color to the sound

Yep, a twin and a 57 are a perfect marriage, they have many children. A condenser as described would be nice in the mix too.

i've gotten great results with a 57 up close on the twin and then an ecm8000 about 3m away...

I'm always use a c1000 for close micing a guitar amp. IMHO much better than the sm57. a km148 give you even better results.
a second one or a stero pair 2 meter (6 feet) away wil give you a much more realistic sound.

you can use a opto comp on the close mike 2 get ride of the (in)famous spikes you can get by close micing a loud amp.

hope this helps

Remco

Remco, do you mean a KM-184? I've not tried mine in front of an amp yet. Hmmmmmm....

yep,
sorry for the confusion, it is km-184 and not km148
put it a bit further away then you would do with a '57 , sounds verry tide
