As you can infer from the title, I own a fender squire and have been having a problem with it. I have all of the strings in tune, but when I play a fretted note on the low (low pitched) e string (top string), it is very sharp, almost a half step sharp up on the higher frets, as it gets worse as I go up the neck. What could be the cause of this, and how can I fix it?

Thanks

It is an Intonation problem.

The distance of the string between the nut and bridge of the Squire has to be adjusted.

If the pitch is getting lower as you go up the frets, you must shorten this distance slightly making the pitch higher. Proceed until 12th fret is exactly one octave to the open string. And of course Vice Versa.

Here is a good site on the subject.

Good luck it can be frustrating.
