bollocks redux!
Posting this to see if there is any interest in a thoroughly pimped out Chinese Alcatron 9-pattern tube mic. The mic has been upgraded with a Peluso CEK-347 capsule, a Cinemag 2480 transformer, an NOS GE JAN 6072a tube, capacitor upgrades including an Auricap in C8, Zener diode mods in the power supply, a new Mogami 7 pin cable, and a layer of headbasket removal. The mic itself started as a brand new Nady TCM-1050 that I purchased in March of 2007 (the body of the mic has been spraypainted grey as well). All mods were done by a local RE/tech named Michael Perez-Cisneros who has posted extensively about these mods on other message boards in March.
This is an awesome mic that I would like to keep, but I have gone modded tube mic crazy lately-- I've picked up two other mics with the same basic mods (essentially the "Dave Thomas mod" with different capsules and transformers), two Royer-modded tube mics, and an Oktavamodded MKL2500, and I would like to reallocate resources a bit. This one has the most expensive capsule and started as a brand new mic so I figure it has the best resale value.
I am not desperate to sell this, but if anyone is interested, I would sell this for less than the price of the parts (which add up to about $600-- feel free to check on that yourself). I would be interested in hearing trade offers as well. Thanks!

Hey! :D I've had lots of interest in this, though I think I'm making it hard on folks by not being very flexible with my asking price, so I've decided to put my Dave Thomas modded mic up for sale as well (or maybe instead).

It's a little less decked out, but still an awesome mic. DT likens this mod to a U-67 (YMMDV), and many folks who have gotten this mic mod seem to agree. It is again an Alcatron mic, but this time started it's existence as a Nady TCM-1100 mic. Dave modded this to include a Peluso BV-8P transformer (which is actually reported to be a better transformer than the Cinemag 2480 in the other mic), to have 9 patterns (1100 stock is Cardioid) and with his mods that he proclaim make this mic's circuit very close to a vintage C-12. He originally put a CEK-12 capsule in it, but a couple of months ago Philgood here swapped in a CEK-89 (Peluso's copy of a Neumann U-89 capsule) for me. This mic has a minty 9 pattern power supply from Shinybox, the same Mogami 7 pin cable, and the ubiquitous elastic shock mount. I've burned in an Electro Harmonix 6072a tube, but will include a sweet NOS GE JAN 6072a (I bought a whole bunch of these) with the mic-- it may require some burn in time though. The mic has a couple of slight cosmetic issues. First, due to admitted flaws in his painting system, Dave shipped the mic before the paint had fully set. As a result, the mic has a shockmount inprint on it. I also had to remove a little bit of the paint at the bottom in order to open it up, because he had kind of painted it sealed. Finally it has been rebranded (and obviously repainted) as an Advanced Audio CM-12, but it actually has the components of an Advanced Audio CM-67.

This one I can put a definite price on-- $425 OBO shipped and I'm taking a loss on labor and parts. I've had this mic for about 3 months, but I got the first of my Royer modded mics today and I'm getting awfully crowded with tube mics here! :D ... there are worse problems to have.

Pics available of either mic on request incidentally.

bump final price reduction to $550. this may just go back into my collection, as it looks like i will be able to sell enough to satisfy my gear a.d.d. lust. awesome deal (if i do say so myself) on a hotrodded mic with a premium capsule, highly upgraded transformer and a premium tube, plus all sorts of esoteric high grade electronic bits put in there!
