seems like an awesome value for 4 channels of high-end pres, not to mention the optional 192k a/d card. anybody here using it yet?

good luck on getting response for this. I posted something about the focusrite octapre with no luck. How stupid is it that these fuckers compain all the time and they're all using behringer shit. What do you mofos expect?

thanks for responding. i'd be glad to give an opinion of the octopre but i've never used it or know anyone with one. sorry.

Hey Fenix-
Don't beat around the bush, just say what you feel. ;)

You got me started now :). I'm so tired of people on these boards talking about the following (note: this is not a complete list):

1. Behringer stuff
2. Art preamps
3. T-racks
4. "How do I get my mix louder?"
5. When someone answers question #4 "Take it to be professionally mastered."
6. Pearl export drums
7. "How do I hook up a compressor?"
8. Drumhead
9. Poinless arguments like "David grohl is better than (insert some obscure studio drummer's name here)
10. Pointless polls like "David Grohl vs. Disturbed drummer" Honestly...does anyone care? Two very different styles of music in my opinion. Besides the music of the latter is pointless crap just like godsmack and new metallica. I like to think of these bands as the reality shows of music because they lack so much content and the primary goal they have is $$$. Nirvana, on the other hand, stumbled upon $$$. I'm getting side-tracked here. Back to the list.
11. "How do I tune a snare?" Put the head on it and crank the screws. Moron. There are so many ways to tune a god damn snare. Figure it out yourself.
12. "How do I get the Danny Carrey from Tool sound?" Simple. Practice for about 20 years. Buy a good drumset. Buy a 70s neve, ssl, or amek board, some good mics. Hire a good drumtech and engineer. Duh!
13. Adats. Adats are worthless. I've owned many. All are shit. Tape errors that ruin a project, tape sensors that go bad, etc. You name it. The only thing adats are good for are interfaces (a/d converters) for stuff like Protools LE.
14. Monster cable. You're being ripped off morons! You really think monster cable is going to make a difference on your 4 track recorder or Roland 16 track recorder? Seriously guys. Sell your monster cable and buy an adat. Oh wait...adats are worthless.
15. Crate guitar amps. ugghhg. The name crate says it all. JUNK!
16. What is DI? It's what you are. Damn Idiot.
17. The fact that almost no one seems to try other dynamic mic brands besides shure. Ever hear of audix? Sennheiser? AKG? Doesn't grandma's music store carry anything but a shure 57?

People are going to love me for this one.

Lets talk about stupid fuckers. We ask about Focusrite Octopre (try spelling it right and maybe someone will take you seriously) when all you have to do is do a search for Platinum Series, Voicemaster, Trackmaster, maybe even Ocotopre itself (since they are the same preamp) and you will find plenty of info here and on RAP (which is a place you SHOULDNT post, by the way) and then you will find exactly the reason none of the fuckers here have a Focusrite Octopre.

As for the Blue series, 6gun, very nice preamps, and I think that $2000 for the 4 channel unit might even be list, so we might be looking at about $1800-$1900, which would be pretty good indeed.

I found this site a few mounths ago. Before that I would just try things and I never fried anything.I learned by doing it.

geesh fenix, you're tough on the guys.

Curious where you work out of here in Cincy to be so on top of it.

Anyways... We use alot of Focusrite gear, ISA, Red, Green, and have even used the platinum a bit. I personally don't think any of it is all too magical or anything.

On the question at hand, I thought the platinum pres all were tranformerless, but I thought I had read the Octo was transformer based, which would mean it sounded very different from the other platinum gear. I'm goinna go look up where I saw this, it was probably in a catalog I have.

Oh, ha ha you were asking about the isa.

We use an ISA 110 often. More often than I personally like I guess. We use it paired with an 1176 mostly, but I think I like the Red7 better as a chain. But it's a pretty nice unit I guess. I personally would rather use the Amek 9098 on vocals, but it's only 2 channels for about the same price. I like the 4 channel Sytek pre as well as the ISA, I think. Especially on most vocals and on drums.

It just depends what you like and hear at a given time. It's not a piece of junk unit, for sure.

Wow. Much clearer now. No wonder why I wasn't getting much initial response on my octopre thread. After much thinking I've decided to go with the presonus blue tube. After all, it has a tube in it and I will achieve warm tubey sound. It's also easier to spell.

6 gun: I've been trying to find some reviews on the ISA 428 and have had no luck. I am looking into purchasing one of these also.

TRY THIS.... Go to ANY music store and start a conversation with the salesperson about Monster Cables. Same bullshite. They all say that the cable will sound soo much better. They will say that everyone who tries them raves about the balanced sound and how chrystal clear they make their guitars, basses etc. sound.
I did try Monster Cables. Not one bit of difference. Nothing.
Money down the tube..................Flame away about the engineering theories. Bottom line: No Difference in sound.
But they are constructed and guarenteed for life with no sales slip. That is OK.

You know what I'm really sick of?

Idiots who pick the most obscure, worthless piece of gear they can think of . . . something that maybe 0.001% of the entire AE or Project Studio community has even heard of, let alone considered buying . . .

Then come to a board consisting mostly of home recording hobbyists and semi-pros, and wants to know our thoughts on it?

Then when they don't get any responses, they go off like a fucking nuclear bomb and call everyone else idiots.

I'll tell you what, Fenix, why don't you just go to fucking Alaska and ask them what Air Conditioning units they might recommend? If they don't answer you, maybe you can throw another one of your hissy fits and insult eskimos or something. :D :D

6gun, I've got an ISA 428 here for review and it's an excellent box. $1699 or less for four pres this good is a pretty stunning deal. Very good as an all-purpose pre. Fairly transparent but still with a little edge. Gives sort of a silky sound.

i agree dan. i bought the 428 about 3 weeks ago and have tracked some drums and direct bass. so far i'm very pleased.

what were you recording and what mics were used, if i may ask?
