You're close in a lot of ways to having a good piece of work. Don't get discouraged and underestimate your skills.
I'd like to suggest a few first considerations to improving your smithing and recording.
The recording has good sounds. Be aware of the evenness left and right: the piano R has a lot of power, unbalanced on the left...most of the time, for example.
Don't be unaware of the benefit of silencing some parts sometimes...like in early verses. Otherwise the texture is kinda thick all the time. The first verse might sound better with just the acoustic, for example. Adding keys later will build things, and give a less flat 'landscape'.
The acoustic is really thin, maybe flanged[?]....sort of "America" namby pamby. More guts...mids and bass, and a percussive chunking attack....might be nice.
The piano chording is boringly regular. Cut loose! Improvise a bit. Make ear candy. Use different rythms and voicings. Adds interest.
The organ left needs to have the rotation chorus effect shut off after introducing new sections...and used only for upticks in dynamics. What happens to the percussion when it's on??? Listen to some pop records for the best way to use the 'leslie'. A great sound for a tune like this would be percussive hammond and a slow rotation...like "Whiter Shades of Pale" or something. Smokier. As recorded, during fast rotation, it's thick, unchanging, and sounds like a cheep Lowry church organ. I'd suggest killing the organ and piano during the verses, at least.
The major 7 chord.....avoid it. Or use it a lot more sparingly. I think the tune would sound nicer with triads...kinda 'Neil'. The maj7 saps energy and urgence from a progression. The tune is a tribute to a gem in a mudslide....passion, and all that, is kinda sucked out by the maj7 all the time.
The bass notes under the chords never visit the root of the chords sometimes...and that makes the weak maj7 chords even weaker. You play
3rds in the verses. Way soft, weak...and tonally confusing.
Listen...you sing better than Neil Young. And your tune is not far off from some of his popular work. The recorded sounds are good. I think what the project lacks is a dose of confidence in yourself. You have skills to be cocky about. Attitude will transfer into the recordings. Get jiggy. Unchain yourself.
Good stuff. Keep going. And keep posting.
