I just got my first issue of Tape Op today!

Nice mag, way better than any of them other crap USA recording rags.

With SOS and Tape Op I now feel complete. :D

I've been subscribed to Recording(It was called Home & Studio Recording in the 80's) for over 15 years.Took one year off when I had a slump and wasnt into recording.I've always enjoyed reading it because it's on the Homereccers level of thinking.Im talking REAL homereccers with 4 tracks machines and one mic.LOL.

Got my first issue of Tape Op in the mail today and it looks like a pretty good rag....it's free so I cant complain.

I've been enjoying an e-sub at Sound on Sound.

Hopefully, I'll get my Tape Op today!

I like Home Recording and Recording. Entertaining rags...

I signed up for a sub of TapeOp a few weeks ago. Hope it wasn't too late to get the current issue!

"Sound on Sound" is the best I've seen. Their website is great for equipment reviews too.

I like "Computer Music" too.

EM

Is it me, or does electronic musician get stupider everytime i read it???

It seems like each issue discusses more things i learned in my 7th grade science class than what i'm teaching myself by playing in my bedroom/studio

I think one month they talked about how not all monitors have perfeclty flat frequency response and you should pick ones that have flat response....which might i add took about , oh, 6 pages to discuss plus the 4 ad's inbetween each page of text so about 1/8 of the mag to tell my reference monitors should have a flat frequency response

sorry, needed to vent that.....definitly going to buy myself a copy of tapeOP at barnes and noble tomorrow

Three months into a subscription of Home Recording and whether it has any real content or not I just have a hard time with it visually. Reminds me of USA Today.

It took about 8 weeks to get my first issue. Not sure what issue you'll get.

I thought Home Recording was great when I first built my studio 18 or 20 months ago. But as I've gotten more knowledgeable and experienced, I've found it more and more lacking in content. Now, I pretty much don't read it. Usually has some good topics but never enough depth to put it to practical use in the studio. Same basically for the others - although I find EQ is sometimes pretty good. I subscribed to TapeOp cause of this thread, looking forward to getting it!!

I agree with Beatnik - I think EM has been a bit fluffy the last few months. They've been around for a million years though, and I've been reading them for the last 3, so hopefully this isn't a long-term trend. I just signed up for a sub to Tape Op though :)

Computer Music (UK) - sub's expensive as hell, but their tutorials are cool, and some great "freebies" (uh, Daf, that's why the mag's so expensive:rolleyes:) on the CD that comes with.

I'll buy SOS and EM off the stands sometimes. And Keyboard's a regular read. Haven't heard of TapeOp, I'll go chase it down...

TapeOp gets my vote. The new article on Chad Clark is amazing (probably since my favorite band is The Plan, but anywho).

Mix also gets a vote from me, expensive as He!! on the newstand, but only $25-30 to subscribe depending on what deal they have going on. Yes you will be slobbering over the SSL's but they have great interviews with engineers and producers, and the interviews always give great advice. Not to mention that 99% of the time you realize that some of the best sounding records are tracked at an engineers home studio (yes he does have a 32 channel vintage Neve, but still) and only mixed at the big daddy studios. But the big guys are all fluff, you are paying for the Italian couches and designer computer chairs... but that's a topic for a whole other thread :)

But I must say that EQ the past few months (since the issue with Dweezil Zappa on the front) has been kicking @$$, a few months ago they said they were going to change their format, and change they did. Things are really looking up in the EQ camp so I'd say those are the three to get.
