www.ocdrum.com nuff said. Unless you are a signed artist or live in the OC area...you'll most likely be put on a waiting list of almost a year. (could be longer...last time I checked it was almost a year). This is the company Adrian Young (of no doubt) is partial owner of. I suggest you old folks check them out. They put almost all (if not all) other drum companies to shame.

I have two kits that I like for different reasons:
My Yamaha Rock Tour Customs are oversized power-oriented LOUD rhythm makers (birch shells, i think) that I use in live situations. Lots of projection!! I use a 6 1/2 x 14 Brass snare (also Yamaha) with this kit. Awsome live kit. Tunes great, and carries its own with loud live music.
Now on the more sedate side, I came across a (don't laugh) Premier Cabria series kit that I just couldn't believe the sound. This cheap little entry series kit came with its own snare (un-f-ing believable sound!). It's not the newly developed Cabria series that just secently came out (CRAP!), but rather the older series from 3 or 4 years ago until just recently. What makes this kit so cool is that the shells are practally paper thin (4-ply, 6-ply on the floor tom) and they resonate like Tama Artstars. I have actually used this kit to record, and they have the warmest, most controllable sound with the fattest tone I have ever heard (except for the high-end kits, of course). I bought this kit on clearance for $320 and it's one of the best investments I ever made. Too bad that Premier discontinued this line and replaced it with their "revised edition".

My brother had a Tama Artstar II 16 on the rack 18 on the floor,it sounded like...HUGE!!! really nice actually.
He and i also have ludwig kits both exactly the same 60's model like ringo exept the lighter color lamimate.
He used to put them together...ccoooorrrr!

Yeah i've a Remo Quadura kit...its doing the job for me 
does anyone know anything about the wood (or whatever the hell it is) that makes up the shells? coz its black, and it sorta looks weird. I dont really know much about it...It sounds ok though...yeah...anyone know anything about it?

I play early 60s premier kits I always loved their tone I use pin stripe heads live and weather king for the studi
ne of the reasons that I love them is that they are cheap as chips and if you get some modern hardware then they are quite tour worthy .Ive toured extensivily around australia with them and have had realy great resoponse from sound guys on the kick and snare sounds(kick 22x18,snare 51/2 wood shell)just a pity about the odd size floor tom(16 1/4x18)cause the heads are very expensive,but for a kit that cost 400 bucks its great.I also have apremier resonator kick drum that I got for 70 bucks I think its a 70s model and it realy has some grunt.Iuse the remo m3 head on my kicks with no stuffing in them I like it like that.I also have a very old yammy kit that I got for 60 bucks at an auction and its a real little charmer as well(green and black swirly patern ) 20"kick with 12"tom 16"floor and 51/2 wood snare.My most recent purchase is a dandy kit from the 40s (i think) in blue sparkle wich had a premier steel shell snare with it some nice ufip hi hats a groovy sizzle cymbal & aneat little splashall for 150 bucks. I get to play a lot of newer kits on tour and at festivals and not many come up that well Iknow hire kits are notorious for being crap but they all cant be that bad. I did plat a birch shell pearl kit in western australia wich was wicked. I think my reason for the liking of old kits has somthing to do with the wood being aged and seasoned (no not kajun) but I'm working my way over my new kit phobia and will bight the bullett when I find one I really like well I'm sick of talking about it I'm gonna hit me some drums

I'm surprised that Sleishman (www.sleishman.com) haven't been mentioned by the Aussies here.
These guys invented the d'ble kick pedal plus some other innovations in drum design and are really up there with the best.

i found a set of '67 ludwigs in some dudes barn in the middle of iowa a few years back...the cool thing is it had four toms, two floor, two top...everything is in that classic ringo greenish blue swirl...i had the shells checked out and they weren't warped or anything so i bought them, the hole six piece set for $500...i had to dump a few hundred into them for new heads and kick pedal and other assorted hardware but it was worth it... being a guitarist though i'm still waiting to come across a '58 sunburst les paul hanging out in some dudes forgotten basement...any leads

my mapex orion is pretty good like im getting a 16x16 rack tom to go with 14x14 rack
the kit soundz really good both live and in da studio. I still cant belive the sound i get out a it and ive got like heads that are 3 years old on it!!!! like i was to bothered to spend money on new heads so im just using coated emperors from my recording custom kit. But the sound difference between the Orion and the Saturn aint much. Really just Looks i think. But im trying to sell my orion coz i want to get a pearl masterworx.
