Hi Guys
This is my first post here! After reading on here and looking further into recording some lo-fi jams I've recently got my hands on what appeared to be a well looked after Tascam 246. After the expected belt replacement (idler tires and pinch roller and in satisfactory condition) I loaded a tape in to begin familiarising myself with the functions of the unit and just working my way around the unit in general. There are a few decent fault with the unit I've come across:
- The entire Left channel (L/ODD) doesn't record or playback. I can't even pan a recorded R/EVEN track to the centre. No Left output at all.
- All the channel strips happily record to R/EVEN tracks in record mode, however:
- In RMX mode:
Channel 1 only plays back track 2
Channel 2 only plays back track 2
Channel 3 doesn't playback at all, with any tracks assigned
Channel 4 plays back track 4 BUT! It plays back track 4 when track 2 is assigned
I hope this all makes sense, and I hope anyone out there can help me find a good place to start trouble shooting and hopefully fix these issues, I imagine a good place to start is getting the L/ODD channel working. Has anyone experienced anything similar? I am quite confident with my technical ability to repair this unit, I just may not have access to the right tools for the job, if it ends up involving oscilloscopes or signal generators.
