Hey Everyone...

I've got a question that you may or may not know the answer to.

Ok... so for preamps, I have a soundtracs SOLO console, and the Tape/direct outs on each channel strip are Unbalanced.
Going out from the strips I go directly into my Digidesign 882 interface, who's inputs are balanced and switchable between +4dBu or -10dBV.

Now, unfortunately the owners manual for my mixer does not say whether or not the preamp outputs are -10dBV or +4dBu.

So my question is... since they are unbalanced, I know that doesn't necessarily FOR SURE mean that they -10dBV, but would it be a safe bet to assume so? Or since this is a "pro" or "commercial" desk, does that likely mean that the outputs are +4dBu.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

it probably needs to be set to -10, but even if i'm wrong, it won't hurt any thing to try.

if the input looks to low, then put it on +4.

giraffe is right, start low....then if you cant get a useable signal out of it turn down all the trim and input levels, set it to +4, and start over. If it's too hot to use, stick with the -10 and work it the best you can.

It's a safe guess that if the outputs (especially if they're on RCA) ae unbalanced, they're at -10. Balanced lines are typicly +4.

Balanced and unbalanced technically don't really have anything to do with +4 or -10. My old D&R console had +4 balanced outputs. Have you tried searching the Soundtracs website for an old manual? You might want to shoot them an email as well. I also know there is a company in England that does a lot of Soundtracs stuff (repairs, refurbs etc...) since Soundtracs doesn't really have an analog division anymore. I don't remember their web address, but you might want to do a search for a company called Studio Systems (I believe that was their name). You could also ask over at www.recordingconsoles.net and someone over there can probably get you an answer pretty fast.
