Had not tried using an envelope on an f/x before. Using a parametric equalizer to remove an annoying noise (I think i whacked the acoustic body with the headphone cable). I got it down to the right frequency, but only wanted to use the PE at the noise part of the track.
Do I set the envelope at 0dB, then ramp it down for the place I want to block out? Is the gain the default envelope parameter?

Yes. Slice the beginning and ending of the part you don't want. You can click the top of the bar and pull it down. You'll see the waveform slowly getting smaller.

I found the selection of envelopes for the f/x, for some reason it was not showing the first time. Pretty cool that Reaper lets you set an envelope for every parameter! I was able to filter out the noise pretty easy once I figured out where it was on the timeline.

I'm a little confused, you mean like an envelope for different frequency bands ?

Yes, you can actually set envelopes to change frequencies and widths, if needed - every parameter of the F/X. In my case, it was just the gain (knocking it down to -infinity for a part of a second).
