Extigy for recording...?

Just like to ask...

1)Is the Extigy a viable recording solution when I am using a laptop?
2) I've heard that it doesn't have any soundfonts...?!
3) What am I missing from the lSBlive or audigy if I record using the Extigy in SONAR?
4) Is the latency a big problem?

I need to know this before plunking down the remainder of my savings on the extigy to get it to record on my laptop, so any information would be greatly appreciated!

Tascam has a couple USB thingies, too. The US-428 (with 4 inputs) and the US-224 (with 2 inputs.) Both have mixer control surfaces, too.

Just another option. :)

For $150 it looks good to me, but if you need 24/96 recording, I'd ask creative tech support directly if it can do it. The web page kind of dances around the issue, like they're up to old tricks again.

Ask the direct question, does it support TRUE 24/96 RECORDING.

I've also heard rumor that they implements a software trick to fake 24/96 by writing 0's to fill in 8 bits, actually recording 16/96 (or 16/48 not sure). The source may be questionable though!
 
Even the Audigy series cards do NOT support 24/96 Recording. Only playback!!

I have recorded 24 bit sounds succesfully off the Creative SB Vibra cards, but that's fake 24 - it's actually 20 bit upsampled. The SB Live! does not even support 'fake' 24 bit, it's limited to 16.

The Extigy is good for the new breed of laptops with DVD players and stuff, and lets people enjoy movies and music better than those tinny laptop speakers, but that's about it. For recording, you'll get 16 bit / 44.1 quality at a decently low price but I would go with a midiman or Tascam over the Extigy, but seeing that I don't, I'm stuck with my SB Live!
