What software would you suggest for an external editor for audio files?

I want something as light as Audacity. What I don't like about audacity is when i'm done editing, I can't use the "save feature" because it will save as a project file. So I have to export the file and browse for the directory and look for the file name.

Well that is confusing. Please explain in more detail, what it is you are trying to accomplish.

for example when editing a wav file, I want it to save directly to the original file using "Save" and not "Export".

Saving a project file will save the edits that you are placing on a group of audio files. You 'export' them to have a rendered copy that includes the edits. 'Bounce' in digital world, is a way to render a track directly to the project without exporting. I am not sure that I understand what you are asking, or looking for.

Language may be an issue here as well. I barely speak one myself. lol! Lets try to elaborate so that we can work out each others dialect.

And welcome to the forum sammol. :)

Adobe audition works really well with reaper but its far from light..

None.

That might sound like strange advice . . . but you do not need an external editor for Reaper. You can edit tracks directly within Reaper . . . simply zoom to the level you want and do what you have to do.

The benefit is that changes are reflected instantly, and can be undone easily if you don't like the result
