Experiment recording my whole band live

Hey all,whats up?During my last band practice,I decided to experiment with recording a song with feeds direct from the P.A. to my Aark 24 breakoutbox/pc.The Bass/player lead singer's bass amp has a direct line out to the p.a. so thats were I got his signal,my guitar amp(Line 6 flexIII XL),has dual xlr outs direct to the board so thats were the guitar comes from...drummer is miked up with bass drum mic,couple of overheads.We all sing(You guys already know my shortcomings there with my tunes i've posted ).....I did add a rthym guitar track after the fact to fill things up a bit just to see if I could.Oh ,yeah,the song is a cover of Led Zeppelins "The Ocean" which we are trying to learn for our next gig.

Sounds very good to me. Great live feel to it, and the sound quality is pretty good. There were a few spots where the lead vocals sound like the singer was a bit close to the mic....just a quick pop. Nothing big. When everything came back in at about 2:30, it happened again. Maybe just a quick overload of sound. Anyway, other than a few really small issues, I'd say you captured this well, and teh performance is great. I love this song, and the cover you guys do is a good one. Should be a great show.

Great song, great performance. Sounds awesome! I noticed the vocal thing too, but I couldn't really pick out anything that wasn't personal taste and not really a recording problem. Awesome!

Tight sound. Good sounding live room too, the drums are pretty good for just a couple mics. Got any pics of that live room? It sounds really good.

Hey Thanks Dogman!Yeah about those vocal pops...I guess its kinda cool we started recording our practices cause I would have never noticed it...we have a very loud drummer and Its hard for me to hear anything sometimes ..I think the maybe if he backs off the mic a bit it would help...He is another guy,like me,who never used to sing in his old bands and is trying it now in our thing we got going.He is having a hard time adjusting to playing bass and singing lead at the same time but I think he is coming along pretty good!Thanks again for the feedback!

Im liking the sound. Old school sound. Nice.
next time maybe try placing the amps to get less bleed or is it the vocal mic that carrys the bleed.

Yeah when i said about the old school sound i didnt just mean the song sound. The mix sounds old school also which is well cool. reminds me of like Jimy Hendrix/Jimmy page eara. Brilliant.

Thanks for the feedback...I think its the vocal mic getting the bleed as the guitar amp signal is from the dual xlr outs on the back of the amp into the PA.Bass is direct also...the only thing mic'ed is the drums/vocals....also,the track I have the lead vocals on ...I can hear drums bleeding through when I isolate it and listen to it by itself.

Hey Axman, one of my favorite Zeppelin tunes is "The Ocean" so maybe I'm a bit biased, but this is way cool to listen to! You guys did a fine job and it sounds like it sounds awesome when you're actually there playing it. As for the recording, I don't have any complaints about the quality for a live setting.

Ambitious tune to pull off in a take. Not too shabby my friend. I have some minor quibbles with the way some of the breaks came off (the acapella harmony on the break and guitar harmony parts) but that's minor. The important thing is I don't hear other instruments sympatheticly lighting up the drums which is one of the pitfalls.

Thanks for the feedback!Yup, the acapella part is hard for 3 rookie singers to pull off with conviction...I think you need to sing it with confidence to make it work...and I know I 'm kinda warbley on it.Was wondering if you could explain what you mean by the other instruments "sympatheticly lighting up the drums which is one of the pitfalls" ...it sounds like an interesting observation that might be able to help me in my recording/performances.

Thanks Snake!!Yeah...I am really lucky my wife is so cool and allows me to pursue my "hobby" the way that I do....I had always dreamed of having a space to be able to jam/record and its finally getting to the point I want!!
