I've been into "homerecording" for almost 20 years now. I used to (when I was a teen) pick up an issue of Mix and awe over the kind of equipment "pros" used. The other day while at Guitar Center, I thumbed through an issue of Mix for the first time in probably 10 years and I was shocked at how much the lines have blurred between consumer and pro equipment. There were many ads for the equipment that people discuss in the forums here.
It's neat to think that the difference between the quality of a recording is slowly have to do less with the size of your wallet and more to do with ears and creativity.
