the kinks?

Maybe its merely the accent...but the vocals really reminded me of the kinks! You got a really nice clean sound here AB...this was a true pleasure to listen to...another song I'm going to listen to again...not to find mixing faults...but to really be entertained by it...great song!!

Great song! Not bubblegum at all.
Definitely Big Star or Soft Boys/Robyn Hitchcock.
A couple of other bands came to mind - The Connells and
The Chills.

Some jangly guitar might have been a nice addition... or overkill:)

Some EQ tweaks might help define the guitar better

Mark7 - I'd definitely be up for a collab - let me know when would suit you. I'm paired with BlueBearSound for the HRC Challenge, but after that would be cool.

I'll post some comments on your song in your thread.

kormaniac - thank you for your very kind words. You're about the third or fourth person who has heard a similarity to the Kinks in my stuff. I still haven't got around to buying any of their albums!

DimChandeliers - thank you very much for listening and posting; glad you like it.

I got Big Star's first 2 albums and what I've heard so far I like. I actually saw Robyn Hitchcock live several years ago. I've never heard of the other bands you mention, so it looks like I'll have to do some more shopping!

On this track I used Izotope's Trash plugin. It's a new toy, so I wanted to try and get used to it. I think it's actually very good, it's just that I'm not very good at using it. :(

I also have Cakewalk AmpSim (which I don't think sounds very good) and Revalver SE (which came with SONAR). It's OK, but I haven't been able to get any sounds from it that I really like. I'll give it another shot. I liked the guitar sounds on your track, so it's obviously possible to make it sound good if you know what you're doing! :)

I think you're right, though - better use of EQ is what's really needed.

Cheers

AB
