Hey all,
anyone using this and /or any Evolution controllers? How is the build quality?
Specifically , does it have the dreaded lame assignment knob/fader resolution? Seems M-Audio, and some Edirol units in the same ballpark (price&
features) are low quality build. Not that I expect a miracle for the price range. Just looking for the best bang for buck.

I'm also gathering that using USB for MIDI can be hit & miss, and is best to use the MIDI ports. I'm on a MAC G4, if that matters, no USB hubs here.... at least not yet ;)

Thanks,

Y

It depends what you want from them, they're ok. I use an old Roland PC 180
and that does what I need. As for the USB don't go their ;) .

What's the difference between their, they're and there? Don't ask anyone who uses a PC 180 as a master keyboard...

There's nothing wrong with USB, either 1.1 or 2.0. And the USB keyboard controllers with dedicated control knobs and very advanced midi functionality are streets ahead of any decade-old keyboard.

Time marches on, technology advances and prices come down - I've had a M-Audio/midiman Oxygen8 for a year and a half and it's never given me a bit of trouble. Tonio, if you happen to get a bad one return it to the store and exchange it for a good one. For what these things cost in dollars they're worth the small extra investement of time and energy.

I think I've heard that before somewhere.... :D

I just ordered a 449c, we'll see how it works out. It got really good reviews at Zzounds, and for the price I couldn't beat the features.

I was thinking of a 'Best controller under $200' thread, but after researching it myself I could find nothing to compare with the 449c.

hi,

I've got an Evolution MK249-c... it's a couple years old now, so the one you are getting I believe is a little more advanced.

I couldn't ask for a better controller!! I use this thing all the time and have not had a problem with it yet. When I'm recording, I run it through my midi interface. When I play it live, I use the USB 1.0 cable...no problems whatsoever. Very sturdy keys, programmable knobs, quick interface and since I'm no 'Beethoven', 49 keys are just the right amount for me, I'm thinking of getting another one for dedicated studio use. It's also really light and when you shake it, you can't hear things rattling off inside.

go for it, Evolution makes great products!

Hi Adam,

I saw some 249c's on ebay. It looked like the only difference is the addition of the sliders on the 449c, but there could be more. They were holding their value well at about $100.

Thanks for your post!

I don't want it be a whats the best controller under $200 bucks, actually it isn't :D I was concerned more about the build quality and the knobs/sliders
resolution factor.

Thanks for all the info!!
