everything out of tune with Reason/Rewire/Nuendo!?!?

Hopefully this is a really stupid question:

I'm using Rewire in Reason 2.5 to sync up with Nuendo. I have been tracking rythm guitars/bass for a couple of days in Nuendo and decided to drop a synth part in Reason, but alas - the part was out of tune. I mean WAY out of tune.
For some reason everything I do in Reason is about 2-3 steps out of tune with audio tracks that I record. ...and it doesn't matter which sampler or synth I use - everything is out of tune.
I thought maybe it was sync problem between the two programs, but if I play a click in Nuendo and a click in Reason they are exactly in sync. I can't find any options or preferences that seem to help, but I am relatively new to both programs.

Anyone have a clue?

Thanks in advance

Okay, I'm confused as to whether they are actually out of tune...or out of SYNC. Is do the notes not work together? Or is the timing of the notes off?

I'm thinking it's probably the latter. On the transport in Nuendo, click the 'master' button. this sets nuendo as the sync 'master' so it will make others sync to it.

Make sure your sample rates are set the same for your different programs.

Darryl.....

Probably wouldn't be sample rate, since Reason records MIDI. If he's recording audio, he's doing it in cubase with the rest of the tracks.

thanks for the replies...

- the programs are in sync, but not in tune. (timing is fine, not tuning)
- I'm not sure there is a way to change the sample rate in Reason when it is in "ReWire Slave" mode.

I haven't tried to click on "master" in the transport. I have a session tonight - i'll try that.

has anyone ever experienced this?

when you say "drop a synth part in reason"...are you importing a midi file? Or are you recording midi into Reason's sequencer?

Which synth module in reason are you using? Have the oscillators on the Synths been detuned for the patch that you are using?

I'm recording MIDI into the sequencer. I have the same problem with all the modules - I've tried the "maelstrom" & the "subtractor" with the same results. I've been using the NN19 sampler because it's the easiest to retune.

- the oscillators are at their default value - for example:

i just fire up the NN19 module and load the Rhodes or Wurlitzer patch & its out of tune. I then have to adjust the oscillator by 11 semitones then fine tune it to make it sound right EVERY TIME I CHANGE THE PATCH. its really getting to be a pain in the ass.

it seems like some simple global setting in Reason, but there's really nothing to configure when you're in Rewire Slave mode. I will try setting the Nuendo transport as "Master", but like i said last time: i programmed a click track in both programs and they were perfectly in sync.

11 semitones? Sounds like one app is running at 48kHz while the other is running at 88.2kHz (this would give you about 11 semitones worth of inaccuracy plus the fine tuning you're talking about). I am not sure if this would be possible under ReWire though... hummmm. But what you're describing sure as hell sounds like sampling rate mismatch. Is Cubase set to 88.2? Can Reason handle 88.2?
