Evaluate My Death Metal Mixes

It's cool stuff, good musically, but it's pretty thin sounding. And it also sounds kind of weird. I would say compare it to some high end recordings and try to match the tones and volume. Not that it's totally bad, just not as good as it could be.

I listened to the first mix. Real good energy. And good guitar playing.

Guitars sounded decent. But they're lacking a little body and power. Not real bad though.

I think the bass level could come up a bit.

The vocals are pretty buried, even for this genre. The mix is mostly guitars.

The snare needs more power. It's a bit soft and doesn't have any "smack" to it.

Drums are too weak for a metal style this heavy.
Guitars could use more oomph.
Vocals could come up a bit more but maybe that was a style decision. I've heard tons of "professional" death and black that has really buried vocals as part of their style.

The second song already sounds a lot heavier but could also use some more highs and volume on the kick if you ask me. A good, fast metal kick needs to cut through, it can't just be low end mud.

Thanks for the advice everyone! I've been trying to get the drums to cut through and make the guitars more powerful, which we all seem to agree needs to happen, and vocals are the one thing I get the least amount of practice with. Again, thanks!

Are you using subwoofers to mix these, because it sounds like you may be fooling yourself on the bottom end of these mixes. I would reference other D-metal bands through your monitoring system, and remix.
Good metal!
