Error - The specified format is not supported....

Hi

I have XP pro with CEP2.

Created a session with 3 tracks which played back ok to start with.

Now the play bar will not move in Multitrack view and the error message dispalys and usually closes down the program.

Strangely enough, the indivual wav files will play ok in Waveform view, but not Multitrack view.

Can anyone help

just want to ask you a couple of questions before I make a total fool of myself!!
Did you by any chance record the 3 tracks seperately in 'edit view', then import them into multi-trak view? (or recorded all in 'multi-track' view?)
What sample/Bit rate/depth setting is being indicated on the multitrack view...(shown down the bottom there somewhere).
What sample/Bit rate/depth is shown when u bring each track to Edit view?, (also shown down the bottom there, somewhere.)

Have you enabled 'convert all files upon opening to 32bit'?

I'm no help to you just yet....but I'd love to know this...maybe then help?

I don’t think it’s strange. That means your tracks are fine but there is something wrong with your session.
If there are only 3 tracks in your session it’s easiest to make a new one and import those 3 tracks to the new session.

Sometimes, it’s best not to think what is wrong and why. It could make someone insane.

All tracks recorded in Multitrack view

Bit rate was 48000 - 32 Bit

A box is ticked that says "Interpret 32 bit PCM.wav files as 16.8 float (compatible with old CE format)

Default track record is 16 bit Mono and Premixing is 32 bit

Yep, that works - of course I have lost my effects that I added to the session.

When does CEP change the ORIGINAL file with any alteration you make ?

Yep! But that's how it's suppose to be.
Otherwise if you did destructive editing there would be no way back after you've closed session.

You can copy one of your favorite previous sessions, rename it and replace tracks.
Still the biggest fun is start from the screch. There are only three tracks in this particular session.

1 Why enable the 16.8 float thing? I'd untick it.

2 Why default to 16-bit for recording? Why not record and mix in 32-bit floating point and then dither down last minute for your final mixdown?

3 In that screwed-up session you've got, check each track in Edit View (click View>Wave Properties). Are they all the same type of wav? If not, convert them so that they're all the same type.
