Eq

I need help eqing a recording I already recorded , I cant eq individual so and Unfortunately I'm using audacity... but I downloaded some eq vst plug-ins so ya. Once I listen to something I record it sounds like theres to much low end but once I add mids and highs , I dunno it sounds like somethings missing.
 
Try removing the lows instead of just adding mids and highs.
 
A sample would be helpful. Are we talking just the drums?
 
And eq's always add more noise the more gain you put in them, so cutting in an eq always keeps the signal less noisy. If you feel like something is missing, have you tried to compress it a little, or are we just talking frequency content?

lol the question was how can i get a decent eq for the drums , ill post a song here , Its kind of weird lol but whatever , maybe I can get some advice for equalizing it in general for this song. ... After 5 posts !!??!

You've used too much eq, greg is spot on, you're always better cutting than boosting - and even that means little adjustments!! This is why engineers spend so much time on microphone selection & positioning.

How many microphones did you use?
What were those microphones?
Where did you position those mics?

That is not including the kit or recording equipment!!

There is no other way to increase the quality of the recording than re-recording sadly.
 
I'm using shitty osp dk-7 drum mics for the drums . they were only 200 bucks. When I get enough money im going to buy other mics. As for cutting frequencies how would I do that? I'm using Audacity so... is there any vst plug-ins i can get?
 
I keep coming back to the thought that maybe you might have over EQ'd it when recording. With decent mics (and those OSP's aren't really that bad) and proper placement, along with good tuning, you shouldn't really need any EQ period. Before or after.

I realize you've already recorded the track, but maybe lesson learned, eh?

Also, now that I listen closely it sounds like you've got tons of duct tape on the snare. Did you?
 
no tape at all just tuned nice and tight. I've tried no eq at all before and like i said way to much low end
 
The tom mics and snare mic are pointed towards the center of the drum and the bass drum mic is Near the center of the drum but not completely on the center
 
oh and by the way for that song I still have it with no drum track but I didn't save the drum track so I could just end up recording a new track for it

How close? They sound be at least 2-3 inches away. Is the kick mic inside the drum? How close to the batter head.

A lot of the time people put the mics too close thinking it will sound better.

What about the overheads?
 
ya there about 2 inches away and the bass drum is not inside the drum its about 2-4 inches away from the batter. But like I asked earlier how would I be able to cut frequencies ?
