EQ problem

I record my sop/alto/alto/tenor sax quartet at home using mid/side mics with the mid mic basically on the two altos and the side mic with sop sax on one side and the tenor on the other, all working into Cubase LE on a Windows PC.

I don't usually need to EQ anything but I felt that the side channel on one recording had a bit too much tenor so I tried to EQ it down a bit. I set up the EQ as a send effect and applied it to the side/inverted copy of side channel which are linked as normal for mid/side. To my surprise this rendered the side/copy of side channel silent - nothing at all. When I removed the EQ back came the side channel audio, apply the EQ and side channel silent. I tried EQing the side channel before it's copied and inverted, but this had no effect and the EQ still silenced the side channel completely.

I can't figure why this happens and I'd welcome some advice on it. But the basic question is, how do I EQ the side channel only in a mid/side recording?

You probably sent them to a mono bus. Summing two identical but opposite polarity signals results in silence. Try sending them to a stereo bus. It's also possible the eq effect is mono only, so even on a stereo bus a mono effect will sum the two channels.
