epiphone casino

I've owned one for several years, and it's a part of my toolbox. The pickups are basically OK, unlike any Epiphone humbuckers, whuch I have always replaced. I'm not a big fan of the tuners, which I did change out. It's the best replacement I could afford for my old Gibson with the single P-90. I don't like hollowbodies with a center block, like ES335, and in that type of guitar, I prefer P90's to humbuckers. It's not my go to guitar, but I'm not planning on selling it anytime soon.-Richie

Epiphone Casino's are great guitars! The original Casinos made in the '60's were made by Gibson in the Kalamazoo, Michigan factory. The Casino was Epiphones cheaper version of a Gibson ES-330, basically a shorter scale 335 with no center block and P-90 pickups.

I have two Casino's; a sunburst 1962 single pickup version that is great for rhythm guitar parts. The other one is a cherry 1996 made in the "new" Epiphone Korean factory. Of course the sound is different from the vintage guitar, but it holds it's own and is very cool for the price. I changed the tuners as they were the weakest part of the guitar. It's my wifes main guitar and the shorter scale makes it easy for her to play.

They have that "Beatle" sound if you want it, but they are also very versatile. You can cop lots of useful tones and they are very comfortable to play as well. If you can score an older one for a good price, go for it! If you can only swing one of the newer ones, they are cool too.

I just shipped two of these today (one old, one fairly new, but both beat up by being used a lot on tour - both repairs going back to a customer). They are fine, I suppose, but the thing I never really noticed until I had to put them in boxes is that they are fucking LONG. They've got the normal long ass body of the 335, plus an inordinately long peghead. Add to that the fact that the old one's case hand an extra six inches beyond the headstock in the case, and the fucker didn't fit any of my guitar boxes (too wide for my electric bass boxes, and too long for my acoustic boxes).

Other than that, there fine guitars. Though I hate that long body, which feels really uncomfortable under my arm.

I have the 2006 model with the Bigsby, set up by a master. It needed a new nut (bone), fret dressing, and the pup switch needed replacing. It is set up for .011s, and it stays in tune just fine, with the original tuners, and plays easily enough. I am thinking of getting one without the Bigsby. It weighs the guitar down quite a bit. Tone-wise, I love it.

Awesome guitars. I waited ages to get hold of a second hand one. If you like single coils (I do) and hollow body guitars (I do), this is perfect. I run it through a cranked Marshall DSL 50 head. For some reason, the pick ups and electronics seem to be great. I did get my tech to put on a graphite nut, new pu selector, new machine heads and do a set up. Fucking outstanding and I'm rating it against my 335 and Strat. Big surprise for a Korean made guitar as I was expecting the worst.
