So i finally got an envioce as a dedicated pre-amp for vox and what not... but i would like some opinions on some settings (for vox, bass, or snare) from some people who have this box too, cuz i got the last one in the store, no manual, no nothing cept the box and the adapter, so i'm totally lost.

Thanks in advance,
Eric

I didn't use the manual to make adjustments for vocals and instruments.
No two voices are the same, and basses and other instruments also vary in sound. Why you would need the Envioce for a snare drum is beyond me... but, I digress.

Trust your ears.
You're asking for opinions on something that we can't hear, so how could we possibly tell you what sounds best?

No, there's not any "magic" settings for the things you mentioned. You're going to have to do things the old fashioned way... trial and error. I'm sure that my mics differ from yours, so that, too, will make a difference.

I can give you a "basic" starting point that I use for vocals.
These settings are what I start with when using my RODE NTK.
These settings are for a mid-ranged MALE vocal.

I usually run the input gain between 2.5 and 3.5

Input Gain: 2.5 to 3.5
Bass Cut: 50Hz / off
Bass EQ: (on) 130 Hz / 2 o'clock position (db)
Mid EQ: (on) 2.5 kHz / Q-6 / 1 o'clock position (db)
Hi EQ: (on) 7 kHz / 11 o'clock position (db)

Tube Sat: 5
Threshhold db: -13
Compression: (varies, based on dynamics of the singer) .3:5 to .5

Slow: off
Filter: off
Output Level: 4
Effects: on

Other variances to consider are the type of cables you use and the dynamics of the singer's voice.

Nobody said this stuff was gonna be easy! ;)

Heres a nice setting for the envoice with the C1 for a thick low rock vocal. It can be a bit boomy depending on the voice, how close to the mic the singer is and how much room there is in the mix. If you have chunky guitar in the background youll probably have to cut some at around 350.

BassCut: 50Hz

BassEQ: 3 o'clock, (about 180-200Hz) dB @ 1.5

Mid EQ: Bet 2.5K and 3.5k @ 3k, set the Q to 9 o'clock (about 1 Q), dB @ 1 o'clock.

Hi EQ: 3 o'clock @ about 12K, dB bet 1 and 2 o'clock.

Tube sat: 2-3 o'clock

Threshold: -8dB

Compression: around 3:5...maybe 5.

Slow on, filter off, effects on.

As was said, everything varies from singer to singer, for style of music and for dif mics.

filter button

I noticed the manual says the "filter" button is made for vocals. Does anyone use it?

Would there ever be a time when you wouldn't want those low frequencies to bypass the compressor???

Run the input as hot as possible. It's not working to its full potential unless yeu do. Touching the red every now and then is OK. It is a fe dB delow clipping.

Definately check out the Mindprint site and download the PDF files. You'll get some good starting point suggestions and then tweak from there.
