Hi there!

I'm intending to buy a professional audio interface and my best choice yet ($ x feautures) is the EMU 1820 among other usb, firewire interfaces.

Have anyone used it and can tell if its worth the price?

As far as I searched, the EMU1820 has the best mixing/routing capabilities (software+hardware).

I've been using an 1820m for about a year. It's a decent sounding unit. For the $$, it probably is the best value under $1,000. It doesn't possess the incredibly great drivers you'd get with most any RME unit.

I've been using the 1820 for a while now and I've really liked it. It's very flexible and has very useable convertors. I recently bought a G4 Powerbook though, so I can't use it anymore, since it's PCI-based. I'd be glad to give you a good deal on it with all original manuals, software, etc. PM me if interested.

Make sure to get the EMU-1820m version. This unit is awesome. Decent Pre's, great converters, perfectly stable on my cpu with sonar 4 producer, low latency. Buy it.

When using it with Sonar, have you used onboard effects on tracks inserts? How it sounds? Is the processor capability too short? How about using both onboard effects+VTS plugins at the same time?

I don't use their DSP effects because I have better effects in sonar such as voxengo and sonitus plugins etc...but the DSP effects are awesome for monitoring.

You can have a 20ms latency in sonar and have a 0 latency using the effects so the singer can hear themselves with reverb on and it won't record it.

Having a higher latency in sonar allows for less cpu usage although the EMU card can operate sucessfully at 2ms.

Yes, I'm interested. I've sent you a PM message. Please check.

Thanks.

I was thinking of buying the EMU 0404 . Because I want to use the DSP Effects, Compression, Reverb, mainly, for singing. Also, I wanted to get a midi controller such as the Yamaha KX88 to play with soft synth such as the Emulator X.

Could someone comment on this ? Thanks.

I have the Emu 0404 in one of my computers that I use for editing. If you only need a few inputs it seems to be a fairly stable card. I've used it with Adobe Audition as well as Cubase Sx with no major problems.
I like to use the DSP Effects to get some verb in the headphones but not in the recording. Works well in this application. I've never tried more than one effect at a time but im sure with the right processor/ram you could do it easily.

If you check out the keyboard forum, there has been a lot of discussion as to keyboard controllers. While I think the Kx88 was a great controlller (and probably still is), it's probably overkill for your application. You may want to check out the less pricey alternatives that are suggested there.

I need a good weighted keyboard, with the flexibility of soft synth. And I think the KX88 is probably the least expensive option, buying used on EBAY. What do you think ?

Again, check out the keyboard forum, that is where you should be asking your questions.

And then check out the CME: http://www.dealtime.com/xPO-Cme_Controllers_Uf8_88_Note_Hammer_Action_Midi_Controller_Black
Studiologic makes nice stuff - I prefer it's feel, that's why I use one.

But again, the keyboard forum is where to as these questions.

I am thinking of getting either the 1820 or 1820M as an all in one solution. Could someone comment on the quality of the mic pre's .

Also, does the DSP effects applies to recording as well, or just for playback ? thanks

A stereo pair of M179s through my E-mu pres is my standard config for basic classical music recording. No complaints.
