I've only been playing guitar for about a year, and I'm looking to buy a new, cheap guitar that dosn't sound that bad.

I'm willing to buy an Epiphone Dot Archtop but the Epiphone Dot Studio is cheaper, and I could buy new things for it with the extra money.

Umm...does anyone have any experience with the dot studio? Does it look good /sound good. Also, it dosnt have inlays on the fretboard but does it have inlays on the side? lol
 
I have one. The instrument itself is nice, but it needs all new pickups and wiring, and a good setup to be playable.

It does have dots on the side of the neck.
 
i have an ibanez artcore and a friend of mina a dot (com?). the artcore is by far the better guitar.
 
dot studio i played at GC once was really great. it was set up perfectly and played smooth and good sound, it was all white with black hardware, i really wanted it but really didn't have room, i think it was only 300 something bucks. good deal.

Go with the artcore.. better quality, deeper body, better sound. :)
 
I picked up a 2002 Epiphone Dot hollowbody with a hardshell case for 400 bucks last september. I have never played a nicer guitar. I was going to get an Artcore, but I loved how much this thing played, I bought it instead.
 
They've never really impressed me for the price. The body never seemed to have that hollow sound quite like the artcore, and sounded too trebly, reguardless of your settings on the amp.
 
Which Artcore are you guys talking about?
(the cheapest one I'm hoping)

Stay away from the Artsores.

I am proud to be IveBeenHad free since 03.

Get the dot and drop in a set of 57's and be done with it..
 
I have seen them be a bits sketchy. I have only played two that I would ever want to own, and I have played many of them, because I love hollowbodies. With the right setup and them just being the right guitar they can be very nice. I would recommend looking into an Aria hollowbody. I picked mine up for less than $300, and it is by far one of the best built guitars I have played, and is my main Axe over two American Gibsons and a Mexican strat. If you can track one of those down, they are very killer, but are hard to find. The one I bought was a closeout, so you ight no have alot of luck, but well worth the effort if you can find it.

I will second that, the Aria is suprisingly good for the money

There's also this company called Stellar Guitars, which makes hollowbodies extremely cheap. They look like they are built to last, though I've never played one so I'm not sure how good they are, but it's worth at least checking out.
 
I really don't think that semi-hollows sound that different from a solid body. The true hollow bodies, like EZ's gretsch have a very different sound in my opinion. The semi-solids sound empiracly better (better sustain, maybe a "fuller" sound), but the real hollow bodies sound WAY cooler. I love the middle position on the pickup selector for soloing, but I am a Brian Setzer dork. You can't get that cool inside-out tone on anything but a big empty box.
