Hi Everyone,

I recently purchased a Presonus FireStudio Project interface. I'm beginning to setup my environment but am not fully familiar with proper effects looping for recording. As far as I understand it the FS Project has two channels that have a Send and Return for the purpose of effects looping and re-amping (Ch1 & Ch2). I have a Line 6 POD HD400 pedal with a Send and Return for looping for my guitar and a Line 6 Bass POD PRO rack unit also with a send and return for looping for my bass. My questions are as followed:

1.) Would i plug my Guitar into the preamp of Ch1 and Bass directly into the preamp of Ch2, and the Line 6 units associated to them into the Send and Returns for each respected channel?

2.) Is there a rack unit or hardware solution to add the effects looping ability to any of the other 6 channels that remain? For instances I have a TC Electronics M300 and an EQ I would like to use for my vocal recordings.

Thanks in advance!

I would presume what you mean is using the inserts available on ch's 1 and 2 to patch an effect or some other device into your record path. They are called 'effects loops, but let's not call it 'loop recording.
But typically recording that way would be done only if there were a good reason for it; i.e. only something that would be better or can't be done better later in your mix.
Getting the correct reverb' effect set and blended on the way in for example could be really tough, and most stuff, eq, compression, fx can be done better in the mix.
Your guitar or bass sounds though are good examples of where you could want to get the sound you want recorded on the way in.
However, the normal way to this would be to plug into the Line6's and just record them directly into one of the recorder inputs.
