Edrums to Computer

I got a Legacy DD506 electronic kit,not bad for it's price,so I'm not exactly computer Illiterate,but I need a little guidance.I'm going to purchase "Reaper" and maybe "Superior Drummer"...."Addictive drums" or "BDF2",not sure which yet,but,my question is.......how do I go about connecting the dots.It has midi out,and as I look around I see people with alot of expensive equipment....."Fast track pro" this....."Asio4all" that.....hahahaha....I am oldschool,been drumming for years,but finally thought I'd pursue this,seems fun!!!.....but do I need things like "Fast track pro"?......are "Reaper" and "LegacyDD506" kits compatible.....questions,questions...and I'm sure answers and feedback will make for more questions!!!,anyways...before my tongue ties around my neck,I'll just throw it out their and see what response I get......great forum by the way,appreciate any feedback.

If the Legacy has midi out, you then need something attached to your computer that will take midi in. Once you've got midi going into your computer, then Reaper will be ok to do whatever you want to do: record the midi, edit the midi, use alternative drumkits (e.g. BFD) within Reaper.

So to get from Legacy to computer via midi, you can buy a very simple (and cheap) midi interface which either plugs into a USB slot or a parallel port. However, if you are interested in more than midi (for example, you may want to record the audio from your Legacy, or get someone to play and record another instrument), then you need an interface that has audio and midi facilities. Simple two channel USB interfaces are relatively cheap and will get you started.

So,I got "asio4all",seems ok,a little latency....but I'm going to purchase an interface.It seemed to be compatible with Sonors "cakewalk".......great sounds,imported some different kits,alot of fun.But now I got "Addictive Drums"....so set it all up,got going....only problem is that the Hi-hat triggers as a cymbals,toms trigger as hi-hats,cymbal triggers as hi-hat.....nothing triggers as toms.Snare and kick are OK!!!.....what's going on,any idea?........

Sorry, not very helpful.. I've recently gone the Addictive Drums / Reaper route myself but haven't hooked it up to e-drums yet (given I don't actually own any).. sounds like a MIDI channel issue to me, not that I can be much help there either..

I'm further down the path to the holy grail of edrum bliss,ordered a better sound card,based on advice I've read on other forums,staying away from usb attatched items,for now.....until maybe complications are ironed out (Not that I have personnal experience of course).So,figured that I can play good with the original module through reaper,with very little latency,and a clear sound.But with addictive drums,it seems that latency is relatively ok...just get cut outs of the sound,crackles....etc!!!....hopefully a better sound card will assist with that extra luggage that comes with using addictive drums,it being much more responsive,hence I presume....more data processing involved in the conversion of midi signals to audio.......I'm not that technical,even though I'm trying to be.........so anyway,when I install my new soundcard,do I still use asio4all?..........I should stop,I got torrents of queries.
