EDM meets Indie Pop (!)...Pretty crazy song

Not really my style of music but the mix sounds good for EDM. The vocals are little muffled, like they are missing some high end/air. And the singing is a little pitchy in places. Thanks for posting.

Yeah, the pitchiness on the lead vox is pretty egregious.
Otherwise, the mix is pretty cool. A lot of interesting effects and things happening here.

this sounds exactly like an EDM hit...as in, the chord pattern in that exact tempo. plus the underlying synth is absolutely the same. the vocal needs the most work...sounds like it was sang on top of an existing mp3.

Yeah I can see what you mean. Any idea how to get the vocals to feel more integreated with the rest of the mix?

Bye the way, the song is nothing really serious. Don't really care for EDM. But I'm thinking of using it in a school application so all kind of help is more than welcome :)

The sounds are interesting. Totally cheapish-canned. But some interesting stuff.

Kick is a little bit dominant.

Mix really narrows when the vocal comes in. The vocal is a bit thin and weak and pitchy. It's also a placed a bit behind the synths.

Maybe it's the performance? The vocals sound better in the chorus (pre-chorus?) 1:13-1:26 than the verses, where they don't seem to have the same energy.

It's like if Avicii and Daft Punk had a baby and called it MGMT. Great ideas, although I wouldn't listen to this kind of music I can see this going on a top 10 list somewhere in the world.

Haha. I think my biggest problem with EDM (I think the genre have, at least some, qualities) are the too perfect, overly commercial and super boring vocals that always seem to be present in those productions. But then again, I don't think I've ever listened to an entire song of the genre.

Oh god you triggered a dj sammy flashback! Did you mean to paraphrase heaven? :D

Reminds me of passion pit, really like the song. Mixwise, I'd love to hear some/more verb on the vox, maybe on the synths too, just want to hear them bigger. Really well arranged, nice work there. I'd like to hear the vox clearer too, they seem a bit muffled.

I listened to the first mix.

Haha! Oh, I remember that old Bryan Adams-cover. The funny thing is that I love to smile back at old stuff like that, even though this time it was accidental.

I will try to look at the things you mentioned. I'm not 100% happy with the vocals. Any idea how to "unmuffle" them?

That's beyond me sorry! Might need a re record in a different place in the room, or a different mic maybe? Seems like a recording thing not a mix thing but maybe someone knows a trick. Maybe notching out a little at 200 could help.

I generally agree with TripleM but I don't think the kick is overly prominent. If anything, that's not necessarily bad for this style of music.

The synth that comes in at 0:08... is a little to crisp on the high end, a little too much to where it is too prominent.

Also, that same synth, what happens if you were to just... take it out of the song? Everywhere - like even the part at 2:28. Just an idea. I think it would sound much better, and really open the song up - but that's just a preference (I don't really like the sound of the synth itself so take this as a grain of salt, it's your composition).

Some of the choppy effects you have going on remind me A LOT of Family Force 5 - that's a good thing man!

This sounds like something I'd hear playing in an American Eagle.

Nice mixing dude.

What do you think about changing that high endy synth to something completely different like strings? Maybe could be something interesting to experience with.

It's worth a shot, I mean experimenting is always good. I just know that in my own productions I have to tell myself more is not always more... because the more instruments you have the less you can focus... and the more phasing you're going to run in to... However, why not try it? I can't of a good reason not to try strings :D

afa the vocal unmuffle, try pulling 1k by 2dB and pushing a 16k shelf up about 1dB. Play with the numbers until it sounds happier. :)
Great song. Great arrangement.

Will definitely look into that, thanks! :D

Another problem: there doesn't seem to be any real body in the vocal track. I record at home but have a pretty decent mic (Studio Projects C3 Multi Pattern) and a Mic Thing (to take care of those nasty room sounds), so that shouldn't be the problem. The mic have a high pass-filter that cuts below 150hz, but there's nothing down there I want to use anyway, right?
