hello

i've been creeping this forum for a while and now have an excuse to post something.

i've recently got an edirol UA-25 soundcard from a friend so i can record some vocals and stuff. as soon as i plugged it into my macbook it started emitting a high pitched tone. pretty faint, but still, there.

i set it up as my main soundcard and it works beautifully, for itunes, etc etc. when i set it up to work with ableton, again it sounds great and works great when im using midi or pre-recorded audio etc. but when i record vocals they have this noise with them, its built right into the mic signal and gets worse when i compress it and stuff.

i've been reading people having humming problems with this soundcard but mostly relates to the output sound in general, mine appears to be completely fine in both monitors and headphones, its just the signal from the mic.
i know its not the microphone because the signal is fine when its plugged straight into the build in soundcard.

can anyone help me?

so far i've tried:
-moving the soundcard around
-changing power outlets
-moving everything into another room
-different usb cables
-messing with latency/recording margin

here's my set up:
macbook 2.4Ghz 4GB RAM
ableton live 7
edirol ua25
sm58 microphone

any help would be greatly appreciated!
