Ebay Console Scam?

It sounds like you have started the process with dealing with this guy properly. Always start out nicely. Basically, give the other person the rope and see if they hang themselves with it. If he is still unresponsive, then you have to get a little more serious. If I were you though, I would not tip your hand anywhere along the way until you have already done it. If you want to do a webpage, do the page first, and then tell him. That way he can not find some way of blocking your scheme. If you need to call the cops, call them first and then tell him. If you call the police and then tell him, I am sure that his refunds will show up much faster than if you just threaten him.

Very good point, will do! He hasn't responded to my email yet though, which is odd because his responses before regarding payment have been pretty quick :rolleyes: . I'm giving him a call tommorow if he still hasn't responded to it by then. If nothing still, the fun begins! I was thinking of contacting the other people who are mad at him as well, and trying to convince some of them to call his police department and file complaints as well. I figure if they get enough complaints about this guy they are bound to check him out.
 
hmm, i opened up the console today, and noticed that there were a few things inside that were...well........unplugged :rolleyes: . Wire groups to be specific. It was pretty obvious where they had fallen from, so i reconnected each with their respected sockets (or whatever you called them). Then When I powered up the console, It worked perfectly minus a scratchy auxillary channel. I also noticed that these wire groups that had fallen out of the console were WAY to easy to put back in. It wouldn't take much to knock them out (I'm thinking they were knocked out during shipping.) I tightened them down by twisting some pins. In response to my 'polite' email to the guy, he stuck to his story of it working before he shipped it. Frankly I believe him, it wouldn't take much to knock those things out, and shipping could have easily done it. Of course, some of the stuff on the console is still in rough condition, but it does work so I don't think I can really get anything out of they guy now....damn me and my fixing things!!!
 
I happen to have one of those mixers myself. I bought it new about 10 years ago, or so. I had the choice of a Mackie (at the time) or the Fender. I preferred the Fender. I have used mine quite a bit, and I think it performs well for what it is. I don't have any complaints about noise, sound coloration, or any of that stuff in this level of mixer. Infact, it seems pretty flexible for its smallish footprint, and has 100mm fadars...in which I hate those dinky little 60mm fadars on everything you see under $1000. Personally, to this day, I still think it kicks over a Mackie in sound and features. I could actually use another one! :D

Yeah, now that it is actually working I mixed my band with it for practice. I also used it to track a few takes on some current projects. I had absolutley NO noise problems in either situation. The pre's sound great too. Unfortunately im missing five of my 100mm faders. lol. Think fender still has some knobs and faders I could order?

probably not in all reality.

I also remembering when I bought the mixer, that one of the reasons I bought it was because Fender was advertising an automation package to add on to it. Obviously, they never went further (with the consumer) than that.

The thing to do is to keep your eyes out for another Fender MX5200 mixer.

Seriously.

You paid $153 for this thing, that's a great price now that it's working. If you can get another to use for parts at anywhere near that price you are doing great, way ahead of the game. Then you will have plenty of replacement parts at a fraction of what they would cost from a repair place or from the manufacturer.

The parts mixer doesn't even need to work, which should allow you to get a great price on it. You just need the knobs and faders, and another power supply ideally.

There's a 16 channel MX-5200 on eBay right now with a buy it now of $179. If it were me, I'd snap that up *immediately* and use the best working one for my main mixer and the other one for parts.

yeah, I saw that mixer. I would love to pick it up if I could, but I think its local pickup only. Plus Im broke...hehe......That would be great though because I could swap around the better panel groups, and switch between 16 and 24 channel consoles! The 24ch is just heavy
 
It would actually make sense to use the 16 channel as your main board and the 24 for parts.

The guy will ship if you use the buy it now. He discusses that below the auction in the question and answer section.

I'd really recommend having a spare for parts if you are going to use an old mixer like that. You'll get years and years of use out of the mixer that way. If you are broke now, it's definitely something to keep in mind for the future anyway.
