Easy question about file saving

Every time I open a session I end up with many takes and tracks, sometimes ending up with only one wav file that I want to save. But, when I go to Save it, it asks me to save tons of files. Is it saving the files I deleted? And, how can I make it just save the whole session w/o asking me to save a million files every time?
 
This is associated with the "Save Files Associated with Session" box when you save the session. I get paranoid that I'm going to delete the wrong file/take, so what I've found works great is to right click each track when you're finished with it and go to Clip Properties. From there you can rename each track a specific name (e.g. Lead Guitar 1). Thus, when it's time to quit, you know you won't be needing to save any changes to the random track names (e.g. Track 11(5)).
 
I do it a bit different...once I am done with the session, and the files in my multi-track view are the only ones i want... I want to close out all the ones I dont have in the multi-track view. I go to FILE > CLOSE ONLY NON-SESSION MEDIA. This will ask you fi you want to save the files before you close them but if you just click "NO TO ALL" then it will get rid of all of them for ya....then just save session and your done...
 
Ah, both good ideas. That brings up another question. How does the file-naming convention work? As in, what would track2(1) mean?

Basically, the example you gave would be the first take you recorded on Track 2. Another example, Track 5(7) would refer to the seventh take on track five.
 
yea..so if you remove track 5(7) and record track 5(8) and you actually like that track...then when you get ready to save...it will ask if you want to save 5(1), 5(2), 5(3)....and so on...but if you close all non-session files...you will get asked if you want to save them and just click NO TO ALL as long as you dont need anything that is NOT in your multitrack view.
 
File Management

Definitely take advantage of the close all non-session media as this will eliminate anything that isn't in the mixer window.... Also as was mentioned earlier, rename each file to describe it... You can then know exactly which is bass, rhythm, lead, etc... Also a useful way to back up your files is to burn a DATA cd with the waveforms and project files...
