Hi,
What would you reccomend for a total noob (DAW and basic computer noob) for basic mastering of wav files? He just needs to import a stereo wav, cut off the BS at the begining and end, put some comp, limiter, eq on it, and export it out to CD wav.

I'll give him a couple mastering pluggins, VST, so it cant be audacity.

thanks,
J

+1 for REAPER

Since you're looking at only Stereo tracks, look into freeware WAVOSAUR
It can process VST Plug-ins
I use it to trim my tracks. Especially, when I have transfered a cassette to PC in one shot, then use WAVOSAUR to chop into individual tracks
I also use WAVOSAUR to Mute areas on my guitar tracks.
Alll this can be done quite quick.
And you can link to it from inside Reaper
