I'm coming to you hat in hand . . .
I've just finished setting up a new machine with the intention of moving up from 4-tracking to full-on digital recording. I bought the e-mu 1212 and have been messing around with the copy of Cubasis they included with it. The outputs for the card work fine - both when listening to stuff in Cubasis or when doing other things on the machine, such as games. I can hear MIDI and VST stuff through Cubasis just fine.
The problem comes when I try to put audio into the card. My audio source is a four-track, which is line level - right? Nonetheless, the recording levels are painfully low on the line-in. I've tried going into the card's PatchMix utility and switching from the "Professional" (+4db) to the "Consumer" (-10db) settings, but they're both bad, one's just worse. If I crank everything in PatchMix up (monitor level, master level, and track level, plus the effects inserts) I can hear what's going on. But in Cubasis, working with a line level, the sound is almost inaudible.
Please let me know if you have any idea of what my problem might be, either from working with the 1212 or from more general experience with these issues - I'm very new at this digital stuff.
