Hi,

I've heard that if you're using a dynamic mic for home recording, it is very important to have a preamp that can give you enough gain without adding a additional noise. So if I'm buying an audio interface what should I look for in its preamp so that I can have a decent recording with a dynamic mic?

what are some good interfaces with high quality pres (below $150) out of these?
- M-Audio Fastrack pro
- Presonus AudioBox
-Tuscam US144mk2
- M-Audio Mobile pre

Thanks a lot.

That would depend on the dynamic mic you plan to use. These basic interfaces will give you enough clean gain to use most dynamic mics. If you plan to use a ribbon mic, or some other low output mics like an SM7b, then you may need to spend some more money there. Your interface budget being below $150, I would assume that your mic is not in the latter category.

For future reference, you will be better advised if you give your purpose, goals, and the gear that you already have. Asking what interface is good for a 'dynamic' mic, is like asking what seasoning is best on a vegetable.

Hi,

I have added a sample recording with my current 'gear' and what I'm expecting with a new setup in another post. Please have a look at it and let me know. I'm happy to hear from you!
