I prefer smaller/lighter sticks, I just like the weight and smaller sticks seem more responsive to me. I'm sure a lot depends on how hard you play and the style of music you are into and various other reasons. I prefer 4F sticks but most of our local music stores only carry 1A thru 2B. I'm just wondering what size/weight sticks some of you guys are using.

7a's or 5a's...when i was younger i played 2b's and 5b'...as i've gotten older i continue to lighten my stick up....i think the drums sounds better and its whole lot easier on your cymbals and heads ;) if your stores ONLY carry 1a-2b, that is a very limited selection...might better get online and do some pointing and clicking to see how many sizes and types are available.

Zildjian 7A's
But I use the butt-end instead of the tip end (I like the light weight of the 7A but the tips don't hold up to my heavy hitting).

5b/7a, whichever I grab out of "the stick box"

ProMark 5A's...they have the best feel out of any VicFirth/Zildjian/RegalTip stick I've ever tried. The 5B's are good too if you're more of a hard rocker.

I prefer 7a too but i only use the butt end on the right hand stick.

I have 5B's but they seem a bit to heavy, and a tad to long.

I use the Jeff Queen Solo Stick by Vic Firth.

It's pretty much about the biggest stick on the market; it's part of their "Corpsmaster" series. I have fairly large hands, and I've been through a ton of drumsticks looking for one that feels right, and most of them feel like pencils to me, so I was hunting around found this model and I love it.

I use 5A's. I used to use larger sticks but then realized how much faster I could play by using slightly smaller sticks. They are way easier on my cymbals and drums too. I havent cracked a cymbal since downsizing.

I prefer 5A, but I have 7A, 5A & 5B in my bag. Depending on the style of music, the volume the other players are at, if I'm mic'd, etc I change sticks often during a gig (In the studio I tend to stay with 5A). I've been useing Vic Firth for many years.

I use Vater DSK's They are basically a 5B that are 17 inches long.

I actully change per band.

It's a bit pertencious i know but i do find it helps. VF 7As when playing jazz. Promark Mike portnoy when with my funk band, 5As for general Rock, etc etc

i've always liked the Vic Firth SD1-General sticks when i can find em. they're maple, so they've got a great tone to em. i love the size, weight, taper and the tip.....but i break em pretty easily. and they're "a little much" for lighter styles of music.

when i don't play the SD1's, i'm usually playing 5a's.....although i've really liked the pro mark 707's (the simon phillips sticks) from time to time.

honestly, the sticks i play are largely dependent upon the style of music and the sounds i want out of my drums and cymbals.

cheers,
wade

5A Carbosticks. If you haven't tried them, they're worth a look. It's a carbon fiber synthetic. I just really like the feel of them. Nice and even weight, etc.

I used to use corps style sticks, especially after leaving a real drum corps, but found it hard to manuver around the kit (Silver Fox, DC9's, DC10's, Corpsmaster etc.). Nowadays, (even though I don't really play much anymore), I try to use a stick that will do most of the work for me. I used to love the Vic Firth Anton Fig model. Now its just straight Vater 5B's.
