Drums sequencing program?

Hi there!

I'm asking this question here because it a) must be one of those beaten-o-death issues and b) not sure where the proper place would be.

I usually do my drums by writing them out in guitarpro (as I feel that most of those "click-the-beat" programs lack the flexibility of writing the stuff by hand) and record the mixed output during the playback to a wav file. As you can tell, the sound is exactly what is expected - midi and artificial.

I'm looking for a program that could assign wav files to the midi signal, ie a bass drum sample for a synthetized bass drum... tracktion seems to have the ability to do this, but my PC can't handle that program (my computer is a Pentium 100MHz with 64Mb RAM, believe me it IS able to record, it has done it for years).

So what do you guys sugest? Thanks for your help!

I don't know of a program that could do this on your computer.

If/when you upgrade (especially the RAM) look at BFD or Groove agent 2... both pretty good programs. You can trigger the sounds via midi or run their grooves and adjust those.

100 MHz and 64 Meg? Sorry, you aren't going to find anything that sounds realistic that will run on that.
Definitely upgrade, or if you don't want to do that perhaps an external drum machine. They can sound pretty convincing if used well.

Thanks for your replies! (I'm replying thislate because the computer I used forsurfing died - Thanks sideFind!)

The old version from fruityloops worksfine on my PC, isn't there any other older software that would cut it?

And sticking with the midioption, aren't there any soundfonts or wave sets that couldimprove the sound? I don't know much about this, any helpwould be apreciated. Thanks!

Fruity Loops

You should be able to purchase a number of good sounding samples to use in this program. I have a current version myself and have used it a number of times to hammer out some decent sounding drums on the fly. I'm not sure if your version of fruity loops supports sample imports but it should. On the negative side the better sounding drum samples are at least 16 bit 44.1 and may weigh down your cpu given its processing power and RAM.
