hello again guys,

it's been like a month or two i got drumkit from hell 2, but can't seem to make the kick drum sound right.

what i want is something that sound about like the kick in the song cleansed by silence, available at:

http://www.purevolume.com/iondissonance/music

(sorry for the extreme genre  )

if i could at least get the kick drum sound available in the demo of dfh, i'lb be happy, but from now all i get is crap.

demo here:

I am really not the first to use trigger, so probably someone in here has acheived that kind of sound. If you are part of it, it would be great to know how you achieved it!

and there is also the damn snare, i am not able to make it "big", but it still sounds weak in the demo, feels like i might not be the problem here.

anyway, what are your personnal tricks with trigger!?!?!?

The key to that kind of sound is all in the EQ. You can program your drums with really hard hits to the point that compression won't really be needed on the kick. That will give you the "Trigger" like kick drum sound. You would want to eq that kick with a decent boost around 80-120 Hz and a very big cut at around 300 Hz (I'm talking like -18 db) and another big boost at around 4-5 kHz to get the click happening. Those are just basic guidelines and those frequencies will vary depending on what else is in your mix. But this should give you somewhere to start.
For the snare, the crack will be somewhere in the 5 kHz range and be careful that it is not masked by the guitars. It will have "fatness" down around 200-400 Hz but be careful down there. Also if you are wanting the kick and snare to stand out in your mix, work them out first and fit everything else around them.

wow,

he uses dkfh1, and podxt on some songs, incredible job to my ears.

I wish i was not a beginner...

I'm a big Bulb fan myself, I love his shit.

I use DFH2 too and it can definately be very fustrating to work with. I think Sonic Implants soundfonts sound much better since they're already EQed but the humanization feature in DFH2 is a major plus and makes the drums sound so real!!!

DFH2 snares do lack somthing. Not enough punch or body, even with careful EQ and processing or just pure volume.....there is always something missing in my opinion. Since there is only one kick where you choose the felt or wood beater you are really limited as far as sounds go.

Grab the EQ settings for the DFH2 "Mouth Licking What you've bled" demo from the toontrack forums, it's a good start to making the kits sound nice.

good luck

actually, I think he uses the PodXT on all songs, but...

dude,

it's been about an hour i'm looking for the song Mouth Licking What you've bled, can't find it in the forum, which, by the way, unless i'm a total retard, as no "search" funtion. Do you remember in which section it was?

well, what i mean is i have the song, but can't find the eq settings.

thanx anyway

Ok, if you "have the song" don't  because I showed you.

To find the settings, go to the "Downloads" section. Log in. Go to "Free Downloads" --> Multiformat --> dfh Settings

To be honest though, I'd listen to metalhead's advice about the eq. Just throw a compressor after and eq and start tweaking the hell out of the eq - you'll find what you're looking for.

kinda funny,

i had the exact same compression setting on the snare, i guess i'm on the right way, my eq is similar to what metalhead tells to do, i will try higher velocity trick

He uses the Vamp 2 on his older songs like Logical, Lovedeathsong and I think Essentra, you can really tell the difference between the Vamp and PODxt.
He uses too much compression for my taste but his POD stuff sounds so much cleaner and heavy.
