Drum Tuning Help!! please?

ive been having the hardest time trying to tune my floor tom!! its driving me insane. the heads are Evans G2. my other toms sound just fine but the floor tom sounds like im hitting paper. ive tried tuning it 3 times so far and i cant get it to sound like an actual floor tom. can anybody please point me in the right direction? :confused:

Have you checked the "bead" (the edge of the shell rim that the head sits on) to be sure it is perfectly level, and has a pretty sharp point? Check the shell and be sure it is round while you are checking the edges too. If the bead is too flat it will cause the drum to sound dull (kinda like paper) especially if you tune the drum low. If the bead isn't level (has high or low places) it will cause a rattle. If the shell is out of round you will have tuning problems and a loss of volume. If none of the above are the problem you can try a lighter head on the resonator side. If the resonator head is too thick or tuned badly it will really suck the life out of a tom.
 
Ive allways had problems tuneing drum heads untill I saw a small video on John Bonams drum tech ..... I like my floor tom really tuned low but when you tune it that low you loose all of the Volume so I tune the bottom skin quite high and then tune the top skin Low or the way i like it....
