Just to add, having now used this thing for a few weeks.......(SR-18)
I just could never go back to a software style kit (PC)....they seem so "depthless", if I may use that term....and purely functional, in my opinion.

Just an amazing peice of kit that records wonderfully /programs easily, and sounds so clean, espesh within a complex mix.....wrapped.

Now hopefully I can get my newly purchased (ebay) Motu 1224 system to work.!!
 
I voted other, so I should prolly explain... I use several different keyboards for my drum tracks, depending on the sound I'm looking for. For my rock kits, I like the ones on my Motif, and for my electronic sounds, I'll go with anything that works for the song. I've never been a big fan of computer drum sequencing... with the touch sensitivity on the keyboards, i can usually get the feel I'm looking for as I like to play the parts in real time and might quantize them to a bit if I need a tighter beat.

I know it's a far cry from a lot of the answers already on here, but since we all think a little bit different when it comes to this sort of thing, I thought a little bit of insight into an option not already mentioned was worth mentioning. :)

SR 18 is nice to op......I liked the HR16, still do!
I just wish that when you went into SONG mode, that the display would read the names of the parts YOU'VE given it, rather than just the memory-bank numbers.:mad:I just keep my jotter handy.

Would've been nice to have this unit plug into your PC, so you could program it/back-up to/from there, if u wanted....I can't believe Alesis didn't throw that in with a nice big user friendly screen.. (not talking about silly sysex files here!)

I spent 1 day infront of the heater with the unit and handbook, and understood the functions that were necessary, for me.

I've since bought 6 x AA NiMH batts for it.......!!...It's hungry and I'm not alway in my studio with it.

I think it's a lovely little unit....it's hard to explain,...but you know those pieces of equipment that you own that you just love, and have a 'partnership' with, and they work so well with you???....it's like that...I just have to wipe it clean every now and again.:o
 
I'm getting a Mac....been using PCDrummer and I like it but it doesn't work on a Mac....what software is out there and compatible with Mac?
 
I use drag and drop drummer. It gives you a wide variety of studio recorded/midi drum clips. You can change the tempo also. I think it's a great program.
 
Do you know any FREE Software I'm a beguinerso so i dont want to spend a lot of money right now

for standalone drum machines the little zoom mrt-3s are pretty good and dirt cheap... in fact all the zoom drum machines sound way better than the older boss or alessis stuff and they are cheap...did I mention that :)

for freebies...goldbaby and wave alchemy have excellent free samples...and I mean excellent

also Hydrogen is a great free drum sequencer if you want to give it a go

Superwave do very good software versions of the tiny pops, 808, and 909 machines for around $20 a pop....
 
Battery is also one of my favorite drum machine softwares and it provides some terrific sample CD's for making phenomenol beats.
