I have FXpansion's BFD and an Akai MPD-24 pad setup. I would like to create drum patterns typical to how a drum machine operates. What software is recommended? I looked at FL studio, are they good? Also, using the pad and BFD there seems to be a huge amount of latency, anyway I could fix this? I currently run everything on a dell computer 3.4 gig Proc.
1 gig of ram. integrated soundcard. The Akai plugs in via: USB.

Thanks!

yea fl studios awsome!!!!!!!!!!!! i cant make music withought fl studio, if you get to know fl studio well, u wont need any hardware drum sequencer, trust me!! buy it, see for yourself!!!!

Thanks for the reply. As long as I can create drum tracks in drum machine format, Patterns ect. I will be good to go.
It looks like a nice program :-)

Take a look at reaper, its a little more of a complete DAW that fruity loops and half the price

Using the pad setup with BFD, there seems to be a huge amount of delay between hitting the pad and the sound playing. How can this be fixed?
I am routed through USB for the pad.

The on board sound card is completely inadequate for low latency applications. Try ASIO4ALL drivers (asio4all.com) and run them with the lowest possible latency you can without distorting

Thank you for the quick reply altitude909. What would you suggest for a soundcard? Who has the best when it comes to latency?
Thanks again!

Who has the best when it comes to latency

Latency is more of a driver/computer issue than a soundcard issue. What happens is that at low latencies, the processor has so much data to deal with that you start having glitches and cutouts since it is buffering very little information so it can process data as fast as possible and can't keep up sometimes. The beefier the CPU (faster the memory and FSB also), the lower the latency you can run at reliably. That being said, any of the mid range firewire interfaces will have very low internal latencies, usually on the order of a few samples.

Once again, I thank you.
I downloaded the driver you suggested and it works pretty good. I am currently running a Pentium 4 3.6 gig and 1GB of Ram.

I have a firewire card, so I may look into that.
