drum mic choice

would you rather record a drumset with, as your overheads,

(1) a pair of u87's out front in M/S

(2) a pair of kms184s out front in xy

(3) something else

-pair of 4050s in M/S?

-38 sm57s?

umm... whats the rest of the set up look like? that would be the determining factor for me. i cant say one way is better than the other unless i know the rest.. and even then... its all personal preference.

Depends on the kit,room and style but I'd probably go with the U87's or do something weird like put one 87 out in front of the kick and use the other as a mono OH. Stick the 184s by the snare and floor tom and compress it all to hell.
