Force of Naked
Hi. Does anyone have any experience (good or bad) with any of the "alternate" de-tunning devices that are on the market? I am looking at a couple of them because ...well, you know why. I hate to have to go through the whole re-tunning thing between songs that require different tunnings.

Here's what I've found so far:
1. www.stewmac.com/shop/Tuners/Guitar,_solid_peghead/Hipshot_Guitar_Extender_Keys.html

2. www.stewmac.com/shop/Bridges,_tailpieces/Guitar,_electric/Hipshot_Trilogy_Bridges.html

The trilogy bridge thing (#2) looks pretty interesting, as I could have each string set up for 3 totally different pitches, which would provide me with over 700 different tunnings. I would have to remove my current bridge for this one (duh !), but that's no big deal as the guitar I'd be installing it on is just an old collection of parts that have been thrown together anyway.

Any comments on these products or other recommendations?

Thanks!

why don't you just use your tuners? i mean it's not like in the middle of a song you want to change your tuning? and also, even though i don't have any experience with these contraptions they look like they will detune constantly (especially the gizmo with the zillion settings) - so you will be using your tuners after all :)

I have never installed the Trilogy, but my shop has installed many Extenders. They are very finicky, and you constantly have to readjust them. I would imagine the Trilogy has similar problems, only exponentially expanded as there are three settings for each string. I don't want this to be taken as a knock against Hipshot, as I like their stuff a great deal. I use there bridges almost every time I make a bridge.

Another idea would be banjo d-tuners. Adrian Legg uses them on his guitars, and does some really amazing things with them. If you wanted them on all six strings, you would need to get three sets, and it may require some modification so you should have it done by a good repair person. You will still need to adjust them frequently, but they do not require any special tools to do so.
