OK, after bragging about the sounds in the DR-5, I still can't "fly-in" the sounds from the DR-5. I constantly get checksum errors. the "address" of the checksum error is never the same, but after only a few seconds, I get them. Then the DR-5 doesn't play, only the cheesy rhythm sounds from the BR-8 play. I have tried setting and changing the Sync options, and setting and changing the MIDI options.

Anyone have any ideas? Also, I just bought a Johnson J-Station guitar pre-amp..............pretty good sounds...........especially for the 149.95

THANKS

On the BR-8 goto the MIDI area, press Utility, cursor over to MIDI, the BR-8 can only send so it's the Master and select MIDI ch 10. On the DR-5, press Shift and MIDI, set DR-5 to Receive and select MIDI ch 10. If you used the BR-8's Rhythm Guide the BR-8 will direct the kit as well as the tempo of the DR-5, of course you have to record the wave output of the DR-5 into one or 2 chs (this would give you a stereo drum field) via patch cord.

DR-5

That is exactly what I have done. Set the DR-5's sunc to midi, drums on Channel 10, the BR-8 set to Master, midi channel 10, when I press the footswitch to start recording or play, it DOES trigger the sounds of the DR-5 initially, but when I get the checksum error, the DR-5 seems hung up, and I can't change kits like I can before the error.

Another question for you or anyone, is there a way to get the BR-8 to do turn arounds or fills?

THANK YOU!!!

You may have to re-initilize your DR-5, if you don't have any songs you want to keep, by first turning the power and pressing both left and right fret keys, turn the DR-5 on. You should see 'SYST INIT?', if so press the ENTER key. I've had to do this a couple of times to clear out the memory or just to reset things.

You'ld have to create a TEMPO Map, I'm thinking, I've never tried it. I manually punch-in fills and stuff when needed.

I was afraid of that

I have a couple of songs, but only one that is that important, I have the DR-5 software that allows for SYSEX dumps, so I guess I could do that and then re-init the unit.

If you don't mind, would you tell me your procedure for recording? Judging from your "name" you are a guitarist as well. I have tried several "methods" and have done it several ways, but I wanted to get another persons opinions.

Thanks for the help!

I just use the BR-8's COSM guitar effects for recording, an example is on a demo I did for Roland http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/152/the_primetime_blues_band.html. I used only the factory presets, even the bass sim but I did use a Roland DR-5 for drums MIDI sync'd to the BR-8 Rhythm Guide.

As stated in my other posts, I only use the BR-8 for creating songs, which it was designed to do, not really for band recordings, etc, etc. But, there are bands that have recorded CD using the BR-8.

Some musicians don't like the COSM effects, some do, the COSM effects are all tweakable and can be saved as a User patch or Song patch. I play mainly Blues and don't use any effects pedal, until I got my BR-8. The reason why, is that I started using COSM effects on my song demos and they didn't sound good 'live'. I ended up buying a Fender Cyber-Twin to duplicate 'live' the presets I created for my songs on the BR-8.
