ok,
whenever i compress a track using an outboard compressor or add an outboard effect, i run the signal out of one of my 4 direct outs -->compressor/effect--> back into one of the 8 inputs on my DPS16. ok.. now here's the problem. usually i then record it again on another track than the source track... this is annoying and takes up an extra track... is there a way that I can record onto a virtual track of the source track? that would make things so much easier AND give me more tracks to use and record on to. anybody? please? i'm desperate...

I use the same technique. Only Ill get rid of the uneffected track.

yeah, but if i have 10 instrumental tracks, and i want 4 vocal tracks it doesnt work. well it does if i delete the old one right after processing it, but it just gets so confusing. i could see myself making a lot of mistakes and accidentally deleting something i needed.

That's why this machine has like 99 layers of undo!

but if i set my dps16 so that it has that many layers of undo, then i lose my 1 layer of redo! i guess i need to just chill out thanks guys

Howdy

check it out:

your virtual tracks are not "attached" in any way to the "real" tracks. you can put assign any of your 250 virtuals to one of your 16 "monitor" tracks that you're using.

Just record your compressed or otherwise processed signal onto a track, label both the original and the affected (effected in this case, right?) track on your virtual track page and then assign your affected/effected track to the original tracks position (1-16).

If you are going to want to use both the dry signal and the wet signal mixed together, you will probably have to bounce them together (trial and error) or just wait until you mix down and adjust your send, pre/post settings, etc. to get what you want.

Remember, you don't have to delete anything, just assign the wet track to the dry tracks position and the dry track is safely tucked away and only erasable by a deliberate act on your part!

Hope that helps

yeah i was thinkin that! thanks for confirming my thoughts.

again...thanks a lot

see ya guys,
