DP02-CF External Effects

I have owned a DP02CF for a while. I'm considering buying an external effects unit so I can add reverb/compression/etc to my recordings.

However, I have heard on some forums that the DP02CF doesn’t allow you to record directly with effects applied to the track - that you can only add effects from an external unit later in the mixing process?

Can you at least have effects applied for monitoring, even if you are ultimately recording a dry signal? For a vocal performance, I find it quite off-putting to have a dry monitoring signal in the headphones whilst tracking, so I hope there is a solution to this.
 
of course you can record with the external effects. the only problem i would foresee is that for vox you would need a separate phantom unit, if your using a condensor on vox. signal chain would be as follows (if using phantom)

MIC >>>> PHANTOM >>>>> EXTERNAL EFFECT UNIT >>>>>> DP-02CF

and if your not using a condensor just omit the phantom.

also, if you do this make sure you DO NOT have the phantom on the dp-02cf turned on! you could fry your effects.
 
Thanks for explaining that. It makes sense, but yes – I have a C3000 mic, so will need an external pre-amp with phantom power if I’m bypassing the one on the DP02-CF.

My effects unit has 2 balanced analogue 1/4" jack inputs (left and right) so what’s the best way to plug the pre amp into the unit? The manual says the left hand jack doubles as mono input.

I assume I just run another lead from the effects unit’s output (another mono analogue 1/4" jack output) directly into the DP02-CF? Do I still set the input to mic/line or put it onto guitar?
 
that unit is perfect for what you need. youd plug you mic into the art pre then go from the art to your effects using 1/4 line out on the art. then on with the signal chain. also, as far as i know the left output is almost universally the mono out on most pieces of studio gear.
