Hi there.

I just decided to get a Rode NT1-A to use for vocals into my Tascam DP01-FX as previously I had been using Radio Shack 3010's (dynamic) and was not happy with the volume I was getting. I was using a little impedance matching transformer but still had to turn up the Tascam input volume very high (almost full) to get satisfactory volume for mastering.

Well the voice is the determinator of the overall volume of the mastered stereo track. If the vocals are low then all the instruments have to be reduced in volume accordingly. Then when you make your CD the amp has to be wound up to make the track loud enough to hear.

So I plugged in the new NT1-A to find that I was getting very similar levels of volume and had to turn up the Tascam input to nearly full when you start to get hiss on the earphones. I have managed to master one song and made it into a CD.

I would have thought that you should not have to turn the Tascam up that much.

Any ideas please?

Yes, I am using 48v Phantom power. (Well I assume it is 48v)

Yes, I stand close to the mic.
