DP-24 "Delete Unused" error

I have a fairly large project, 4 minutes / 20 tracks that is complete and thought I'd do a "Delete Unused" before backing it up. During the delete process, it halted and gave me the following error: "Card Error - Please power off". However the DP-24 was frozen so I had to pull the plug. Upon restarting, I found the project had reduced from 650mb to about 450mb but seemed to be completely playable. I checked each track and the master and everything seemed to be intact. When trying to copy the folder from the SD card to my PC for backup, I get an error on one of the files, however ignoring the error permits Windows to continue copying all the files. I have not tried to re-master the project to see if any of the tracks are corrupted. If so, I suspect remastering may fail. I have completed many projects with my DP-24 using 8gb class-10 SD cards. This is the first hicup. Anybody else had a similar problem? Thanks - Bill

DP-24 "Delete Unused" error - more info

My project contains 67 WAV files, named ZZ0000_1.wav thru ZZ0047_2.wav. The corrupted file is ZZ0017_1.wav. Is there any way to determine which track or take this belongs to? I don't seem to be missing anything in the mix although I haven't solo'ed each track to see if they still play.

Hi Bill, first make sure you are on the latest firmware. There was an April release that corrected a lot of flakiness.

Next, write operations on this machine are deceiving because the internal cache gives the appearance that writes are fast.

But, an operation like "delete unused" is very I/O intensive. So, next time, back up your memory card before deleting unused. Also, an operation like this could take some time. Next time you think the DP 24 is hung, step away from it for 30 minutes to an hour. Don't click any buttons.

You could try backing up the memory card. Next, copy your song to another song on the same memory card. After that, try to copy the .wav files from the new copy folder.

Just keep in mind that no files should be added to this memory card since the file system is corrupted. You can use some tools to clean up the file system, but you will probably lose data.

Please let us know how you make out.

I was thinking of buying a high speed memory card duplicator to create faster backups. The current method of backup works well, but it requires too much manual intervention when you have critical data and you are pressed for time.
