Double neck's are dead ?

...These years, I've never seen anybody into double neck anymore (or did I miss sumthin here ?). Just curious, back in 70 / 80 / early 90 many famous guitarist often found play ones. Remember Plant ? Slash ? etc... These days everybody seems happy to just play single neck. What's going on ? Any comment ? Experience ?

I love my 1275. The only disadvantage is the weight. They are very heavy. Playing for 10 minutes will kill your shoulder (an hour if you drink enough). But I think most of the music doesn't require it too much today. Most songs require either a 6 or a 12 but not both by the same player anyway. I think one of the other reasons is that the electric 12's are not used a great deal anyway. Going the acoustic route does sound much better. But I have found applications for it over the years and I will continue to play mine. The crowds do love it when you bring it out. It does look impressive and sounds good.
 
There's a country player that still uses one. Six string on top and lap steel on the bottom, but I can't think of his name just now.

That would be Junior Brown, and the instrument in question (which he made) he calls a Guit-Steel. Good call, 64.

Yup, that's one. But why almost every nowdays guitarist never think to use double neck anymore. They're just look great sometimes on stage... and makes you look like a "more serious" guitarist. :D :D :D And you can switch sounds without actually change the guitar on stage. Just curious... But some time it's cool to play one. I got mine several years ago. Don't remember exactly how did I use it, it's a Gibson... dunno what type, but more like one Angus Young (AC/DC) played. I bought it from friend for only couple months, before he bought it back (Financial reason...). How many of you ever had one ? And how much you like it... ?
 
i Saw a band with an epiphone version of the Gibson double neck
 
It seems that nothing says pompus rockstar than a doubleneck. I mean that in both a good and bad way. Jimmy Page with his during Stairway is awesome. For most rock bands today, the single neck seems to be fine. (I've always wanted an Epi double neck... I love the sound of an electric 12 and I'd love to feel like an ass on stage playing a double. :D)

YEAAAAAAAA baby...no way are double necks dead...as far as Im concerned...A Canadian band called Big Sugar, guy by the name of Gordie Johnson plays doubleneckerz all the time, live too...I seen im!!!...(Im pretty sure their gibsons, I love guitars but I'll be damned if I can name half the ones out there by sight).

Anyway, for sure, check some of that stuff out. It's very blues oriented tunes, with more and more of a leaning to rock edge to it these days. I remember when I saw him at the Calgary Stampede (H'yuk H'yuk) last year, he played most of the song 'All Hell For A Basement' on the uh, neck closest too him, and then in the middle refrain thingy, where the mandolin is, he had a capo somewhere I think the 4th fret on the neck, uh farthest from him, to play that part.

If the above made no sense try and find the tune Im talking about above, then you'll see what I mean, he played it all on a doublenecker. :rolleyes:

Damn I want one of those!...Just think of the possibilites with different tunings and capos and stuff....***drools***

Hmm Gordie is probably most definately pompous, however thats what makes him so good...IMHO...
